Encoder not pushable

I just bought a used Digitakt and I can’t push the top right encoder. In most cases it’s not really needed but especially to unlook the linked feature for a MIDI track it asked me to push it.
Is it possible to check somehow what’s happening with it? Can I just open the box and maybe put a little WD40 spray on it.
Any other advices?

do not do this under any circumstances

Test Mode will allow you to methodically test the functionality of the device’s switches/encoders/leds etc

Start there to see if the knob in question is behaving unusually in any other way

If it pushes but doesn’t register, it is somewhat different to not pushing at all

It should be possible to remove the faceplate and investigate the control board for signs of part replacement or damage (perhaps a wrong part swapped in)

But it will honestly be better to speak to Elektron through the Support channel for the best remedial advice

These parts are so-called sin/cos potentiometers, the reliability of the resistance reading could be compromised by using the wrong ‘spray’ - so even though teh switch is separate, you need to be careful about what and how you introduce to teh switch assembly - seek advice from the experts, but do not use wd-40, there are electronics specific switch lubricants, but even those need to be used with care as the ‘enc’ chassis includes a switch and pot

but first this, because when you do test mode (hold func while power is coming on and then follow prompts) after the error test, you can start pressing the keys and on the screen it will say what button you pressed. When you turn an encoder it will say which encoder, and when you press an encoder button it will say the encoder button is pressed.

So first press the encoder C button so that you can see how it registers the button press on the screen. Then turn encoder D so it registers that encoder D was turned. Then press encoder D, if it registers that encoder D button was pressed, then there is a problem which is not just the physical button unable to be pressed. If it doesn’t register the encoder as being pressed at all, the button function may be broken or something, and then refer back to this:

I managed to “repair” such trouble in an old Machinedrum by carefully removing all the knob caps, then removing the faceplate, then removing all the hair around the knob shafts.

But you could also contact Elektron and ask the cost for a repair.
New knobs make your device kind of new.

Thank you all for quick reply. He knob doesn’t move down at all, but it has the same height then the other ones.
I will look for test mode and do that.
And speak with support.

I took off the knob and cleaned out the space that would be needed to go down. There was a lot of hair wrapped around that kept from pressing it. Only on this one, not the others. Now it works again

that’s awesome, good job. also nice advice @LyingDalai, I thought this about the hair a little bit also but sounded gross so I didn’t want to say it and be wrong. Glad you were braver than me.
