This is Encoder Audio’s Fortrek. It’s basically 4 tracks of audio that loops, like tape loops. You can modulate the tape length, tape position etc. for some interesting results.
Is it possible to recreate this using 4 tracks of the DT? Can you modulate the same set of parameters? How close can you get and how would you do it?
And how about Luminist, below, slightly different in that it’s granular, but is it possible?
I’ve never used the software myself but the digitakt can do something like this. Set samples to loop play. Trigger samples manually and don’t start the sequencer.
You can change end points start points and loops as you go.
You cant cross fade unfortunately but as long as the samples are different lengths you shouldn’t end up with silence.
If you want to use long samples on DT OG you’ll have to import.
Something like this would make more sense on an Octatrack since it has the ability to record, loop and modify that loop directly. It can also deal with longer audio files more easily because it can stream it of the card.
Other than that this is not really Elektron’s strong point. Elektron is more about the sequencer with parameter locks and real-time crazyness, they’re designed as live performance instruments.
The just released Beetlecrab Play Tempera is probably the closest thing to those plug-ins. Only 11 seconds max per sample though.
For granular stuff there is very little hardware available. There is the Tasty Chips GR-1 and GR-Mega, the 1010music nanobox lemondrop and I think the Waldorf Quantum/Iridium can do it.
On iPad there are lots of granular apps if you can live with a touch interface.
