Seriously dude you are freakishly good…

I find the A4 to be the most capable Elektron percussion machine, but still it can never sound like a DFAM… which is why I have my DFAM (and a Modbase, for similar reasons) “hardwired” to the A4. The A4 makes up for the limitations of the DFAM sequencer and lack of LFOs, and the DFAM makes up for everything else with sheer Moog-ishness.

I adore Noir
Do you know if BramBos based it on the DFAM? I think Noir may have come out before the DFAM, but not sure. Anyway, I always wondered if the dev came up with the idea himself or if it was based on one or more hardware things…

All these loops in this video, were made in Noir and then mixed them in AUM

DFAM is from early 2018 and Noir first version is from late 2018… also there is too much similarities in sound and functionalities for it to be a coincidence. I actually like Noir features and sound better than my DFAM. Of course, apples vs. oranges, software vs. hardware… but still, it’s an excellent alternative. My DFAM does not get much love these days. Once Noir is loaded in Loopy Pro that’s non-stop improvised techno :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

ah, that was going to be my next question, but you answered already  I have been thinking of getting a DFAM/Edge…will probably wait for the B* Edge (if it ever gets released/is available) to pair up with TR8S.

I’ve not tried Loopy Pro yet, even after following the development of it since it’s early days and being really excited about it…i’m sure i’ll dive into sooner or later.

As much as I can judge from a YT video, Edge seems to have a slightly different sound, and I like this difference. I hate the color though and also I’m in HNGNY so… Noir it is. But yes, I would probably get one too if I didn’t have the OG already.

DFAM is tons of fun and it’s general sound is huge. Still I did tend to always get a bit samish results out of it. Not sure why, since there are plenty of options to create various sounds. Still many people seem to use it similarly as I did, cause I believe to recognize the dfam immediately. I got bit tired of this character. But super immediate and fun to use.
DFAM and Subharmonicon are unique and innovative. Might get the combo some day

Noir is a great app and very clearly inspired by DFAM

I’m 100% with you on the colour :face_vomiting:
HNGNY - 5 days in and still going strong

If only DFAM had midi and wasn’t so tightly integrated with the limited sequencer.

emulating DF in VCV?

IMO the sequencer integration is its strength. But yes, it has annoying limitations.

I’m all for having it as a feature, but it should have midi in and the option to disable the internal sequencer. I wouldn’t have sold mine had it had that.

Sonoclast MAFD?

https://sonoclast.com/products/mafd/

I could already do that with Octatrack , but still the DFAM was tightly integrated with the sequencer.

You can? How?

Either dedicate a track for DFAM, map a short sine wave to the sequencer and send it to the DFAM thru a cue output, or metronome thru a cue output if you just want the clock from OT.

You mean to just advance the sequencer? Or to pick individual steps via midi to sequence? (Which is what the MAFD does, still don’t understand how it works actually… elfen magic?)

I’m not sure exaclty, not being familiar with the device you posted. But you can map complex patterns to sequence with the OT using the dedicated track and sine wave method.

How I use the A4 is to send note triggers on a track via CV A to step advance, but have those trigs with probability so that it has that unpredictability in how it advances… but it still does so in a linear fashion.

The MAFD is using voltages somehow to convert midi notes to specific steps of both the DFAM sequencers, allowing you to play the steps in any order.

@Scot_Solida and I had a long discussion about how it seems to work, but still don’t know for sure.
