i.e. look at Yhon, he’s making beats again. Most of his samples are triggered using an Elektron style sequencer. Yhon is an Elektronist.
i’m semi-Elektronist then.
running Syntakt in pair with some other groovebox that has its own sequencer.
I have to think that unless you’ve made a conscious choice to submit yourself completely to the Elektron workflow, then an Elektron sequencer as your main tool isn’t enough to be thought of as a philosophical identity.
I may wear brown shoes because they are my only shoes or because they fit the best, but that doesn’t necessarily mean I have rejected shoes of all other colors. If I, however, choose brown shoes to be a part of my identity and truly believe that I can’t walk as effectively without them, then maybe I’m the equivalent of an Elektronist… for brown shoes.
that’s the key point here. I can do basic stuff on the Piano/keys, but I am not as effective to create or express as with the guitar, so when people asks I say “I´m a guitarist”.
Since I am only using the Elektron sequencer to interect with any other device, and I do it because I just preffer it to any other sequencer or DAW, hence the “Elektronist” adjective.
just morning thoughts after 2 days of sleep deprivation.
Elektronaut right?
The astroNAUT “travels” into/across space, but do not work or use the space per se.
I love elektron devices. They are great. But no one should build their identity based on the products of a company.
@warpigs330 What do you think about the Tommy Iommi Gibson SG?
I dunno, sounds a bit like a disparaging epithet: “What an utter Elektronist”…
or how about Lars Zildjian Ulrich?
Pure beauty.
I rather say I play the guitar than say that I am a guitarist. I like that it means that I can do something else later and not be tight to a specific thing. I do make the effort to make the distinction. I rather be functional than object oriented, LOL.
This. For the very simple reason that power corrupts. Same thing with beatport charts, hate them with a passion
Brownshoegazing
my shoehorn solo is coming up, don’t miss it.
Can’t wait to see your tap-sequencer
“step sequencer”
Did someone say pub crawl?
It’s a marketing move, they are both making money on the deal. Also in that case the artist’s name is billed higher than the company, which is very different than Iommi calling himself a “Gibsonist”. I think a lot of the problem with gear comes from the expectation that if you buy a piece of gear then you will be a better artist, or that you need the same gear as your favorite artist to be able to make music. That’s just a sales ploy.
I’m an Elektronautist, I just talk shit all day about gear, instead of making music
That would be an “Elektronautician”, as a person engaged, skilled or specialized in the use of a certain tool or resource: this forum.
