Elektronauts Hiphop Beat Battle #5 - Less is more edition

Hi everyone,

For this one we gonna take it on a different approach.
All of us will work with the same sample material. Me and the 2 runners up of the last battle, @rockpapergoat and @CCMP , will provide a sample. So this time, there is only 3 samples submitted.

Battle specific rules :

  1. You have to use the 3 submitted samples in your beat (a loop, a little chop, that’s up to you).

  2. You cannot use outside samples exept drums hits (acapellas are considered as outside samples, so not allowed).

  3. You can add only 1 external melodic instrument (bass, synth, guitar, vst, whatever you want).

Legal :

Anyone who wants to join has to confirm in this thread by Sunday, October 3. For joining, you have to supply a beat made respecting the rules above by posting it to this thread.

You can submit the song in any format or on any platform. You can only submit one single beat for the battle!

After this deadline we will vote in a new thread. Only people who participated can vote, and only after listening to each song. You’ll choose one song as your first place pick and two runners up. Each first place pick will be worth two points. Runners up will each receive one point. You cannot vote for yourself.

Please don’t post anything exept the beats you’ll provide for the contest as things will get confusing!

I know, one week is pretty short, hope everybody will make it. If there is any issue for several participant regarding the deadline, i can give a week more. Let me know.

Good luck, and have a good beatmaking session!

Here are the samples subbmited :

Nice concept!
This will stop me from making more than one beat because another sick sample or two has been posted a week later lol.

Great concept! I’m very curious to hear what everyone makes… I’ll try to cook something up of course!

Definitely in! My MPC gets here Thursday, so this’ll be a great way to learn it. :sunglasses:

Love this idea! The rules for all the battles have been excellent so far and this is no exception. Makes me hope I never win lest I have to endure the pressure of expectation

Aha guess what, I was about to invite you to make something limited to one sample, chosen after a first vote to choose it.
3 samples from last champions is better, yes ! :content:

@drrumble Could you precise who proposed samples ? :content:
Seems complementary, listening quicky.
Did you talked about it ?

Yes i invited them in a private conversation to provide a sample, i show them mine and they quickly share theirs, i think there is very good material!

The first is @rockpapergoat one, the second @CCMP and the last is mine.

Great idea. I’m in. I’ve had the thought that it would be cool to hear everyone use the same source material. It really puts an emphasis on how people are able to warp the samples.

Cool. Ideally for me 1,2,3 provided sample suffice, no additions. :pl:.
Once I proposed a OT metronome sampling contest ! :content:
OT metronome sounds only.
Just to say a short sample can be very interesting to progress in synthesis, use of a machine…

Thanks for keeping it „simple“ this time. Main reason for me to pass the last editions was that I don’t always find the time (and motivation) to go through a bunch of suggested sample sources especially when some clips are 10+ minutes long. So I‘ll try to give it another shot this time.

Quick question, @drrumble. Is the deadline to join October 3rd, or is that the deadline to submit as well?

Another question @drrumble: are acapella’s allowed?

As melodic instrument

In!

Yes the deadline for submitting is 3 october
