Elektron woes

I think each output is mono for the direct outs, the main outs are stereo- you shouldn’t need splitters. I don’t know who told you you needed what was in the picture?

It literally says “Balanced audio outputs” right there… I don’t think it can be any clearer.

No I’m not saying Elektron LIED…I’m saying its possible that they used a term incorrectly. I’ve also not seen elektron say that so I don’t know WHAT exactly was said.

Based on the level of misunderstanding happening here, its probably very important EXACTLY what was said. All this stuff you are quoting is irrelevant…

sigh if they were mono I wouldn’t have a problem at all. That’s what I want. This whole thing came up because it wasn’t mono and I wanted it to be.

Sometimes I wish forums had a block option. Your profound lack of understanding or communication is staggering.

On the main website specs it does say 4x stereo output for individual voices.

Using a stereo to 2x mono Y cable and hard pan the channels should be sufficient.

Ah shoot! There it is in the manual! I’m a bit flabbergasted, honestly

This works yes. But the problem arises when I’m auditioning sounds in the browser or manager. Or loading from sound pool. Because in those moments the sounds are loaded in the center. Which phase cancels. I get a drop in amplitude in some sounds, and complete silence in others. All depends on how dynamic the sound is.

Wow, to think I was going to sell my OT, A4, and RYTM MK1s for the new MK2s!! Glad I didn’t lol

Ah OK, crystal clear. I don’t own one so can’t help you. Is there maybe an option to audition sounds through the main outs only?

For what it’s worth, Page 80 in the Analog 4 MKII manual:

HARDWARE
128 × 64 pixel OLED screen
MIDI In/Out/Thru with DIN Sync out 2 × 1/4” impedance balanced main audio out jacks
4 × 1/4” separate stereo voice output jacks
2 × 1/4” audio in jacks
1 × 1/4”stereo headphone jack
4 × 1/4” CV/Gate outputs
2 × 1/4” CV/Expression inputs
48 kHz, 24-bit D/A and A/D converters
Flash-EEPROM upgradable OS
Electrically isolated USB 2.0 port

I was too. It doesn’t make any sense to me to have stereo direct outs. That’s what the mains are for. Originally my goal was to have mono outputs go into my mixer, then use an aux bus to send audio to the A4 and use it as an effects machine, and disable the sending of the main tracks to the main output and using it as an effects return. Unfortunately, not possible until I get Overbridge.

@DaveMech I suppose you could, but that’s not a very streamlined way of doing it. And then I lose the ability to use the A4 as an analog effects box.

No thanks. I’ve heard enough to understand that it’s a problem with your setup, your cabling or your specific expectations. Nothing you’ve said would make me nervous about buying an A4 MK II.

Well to be fair, the DSI Tempest has it too. It’s actually quite handy. You have the ability to hard pan sounds so you effectively get 8 mono outputs that way.

Sucks though that it causes problems when auditioning sounds from the browser. There’s no way to change the preview output to mains only?

So in other words you don’t actually know what you’re talking about because you don’t have specific experience with either the AK or A4MKII. Gotcha.

Hmm yeah, but there’s always going to be limitations with these kind of boxes. Working around them is all you can do.

So does the drop in signal happen when there’s a sound-lock on a track sequence that uses a patch from the audio pool? or only when going through the menu auditioning sounds? I’d personally care much less about the latter, so just curious.

Well, Overbridge would be the solution. Because I’d have my discrete outs, the FX channel which I could use as my effects return, and then additionally I could use the main outs for whatever. Then route back from Ableton into my mixer for live shows.

edit: I shelved this matter of direct outs because I realized there was no way to make it work with my setup short of building mono sum cables and decided to patiently wait for Overbridge instead. This recent delay, in a long heritage of delays, is making me feel like I’ll never have a workable solution for this device.

The issue occurs when you’re going through sounds in the sound pool to load into a track. Once you load it, you then have to pan on your plock for it to be audible.

Ok, thanks for answering. That is frustrating.

True, so all there’s left is workaround it until OB lands

It’s annoying, but it will be released eventually.
