As long as you aren’t doing any parallel processing, ie send the same sound to both the main mix and a Ox8 output, it should all be fine.

So tldr: if I’m only looking for midi to cv, without any audio routing - the mutantbrain from Hexinverter will still be superior? Or am I missing something?
I think it was in the same video or post here that they stated that the latency on the outbox 8 is identical to the main outs.
Looks incredibly useful tbh. Does anyone know if it will also be possible to take any external audio routed into a Digi-box, process it with FX and then route it out isolated also?

Modules like the Hexinverter or Midithing2 might have more CV outs than the OB8.
But having the implementation directly in your Elektron without setting up the module (even with Midithing2 which is super convinient and easy and lets you save presets on the fly) might be something great.
And you save space in the rack of course. But you have to get new cables.

Hey guys, I am totally irritated by the fact, that at Superbooth an employee from Elektron told me, that the Outbox8 will not only work also with the Octatrack MK2… it will even work with the Octatrack MK1. He was very clear on about that. But absolutely nowhere this is validated… I am confused as hell. I am aware, that OT has only a much less integration with Overbridge, but that’s what the said to me. Not only once, the next day he repeated that statement.

Anyway, as far as I know Outbox 8 does work with the OT’s as a MIDI to CV converter provided you put a midi to USB converter in between. So the Elektron employee wasn’t being untruthful. It just works differently as the Octatrack’s USB port is for data only.

What I understand is that for enabling separated audio outputs the device need to be overbridge compliant.
So for the audio capabilities it is “basically” an overbridge in a box.
Can’t wait to buy one. 
Any news around release dates?

OT has no Overbridge integration at all

It should be. I take as exemple Digitakt 1, If it works like overbridge (seem to be) you will be able to route every 8 track to any of analog output, but overbridge also let you to get the sound of the main out (only the wet delay/reverb if you separated every other track) + the audio in R and audio in L. So if you route track 1 - 8 to analog 1 - 2, main out and in L - R to analog 3 - 4 you should have an FX box. (be careful to not use fx send on track 1 - 8 to not bleed on the output 3 - 4)

That could be the Point. After rethinking… it didnˋt say that the Outbox will work the Same way. So the fault is on me. Thank You for clearification. Drove me nuts.

Don’t know how far you guys/gals are in the hardware production/prototyping phase?..
But would it be possible: to add a (booth) monitoring headphone out, and maybe some mute buttons/switches/faders (to preview audio, maybe do some live pattern making on the fly, before unmuting and hearing the effects pass through on the outputs. (these buttons don/t have to be physical by definition, but could also maybe be triggered/switched on/off using midi/ext conroller???
Like CUE ing a record on a mixer between two turntables for time aligning/bpm matching
Also when talking about using this as a mixer device of sorts (wink wink)
Really love a standalone fader, which is missing to my opinion, on several devices? So maybe have that Midi type tader on there as well??? (with settings to go in out through midi? To double up and be used on the master or slave devices as a midi parameter controller??? (midi Ninja fader)

Oh yeah. and if not already being in the works:
I know the MPC Live has a feature to like connect/pair it directly over USB to eg a Tascam Model 12 ??? Like an ADAT function or something?
or to hook the OB8 up to an AD/DA converter???
Maybe even expand beyond the 8 physical mono outputs limit, by having 8 more digital channels available through an USB/ADAT connection, or something along thos lines? Just my ‘brain farting’ from being hype on a new upcoming Elektron device
Ofcourse, i like it already without the extra bells and whistles (and to remain a nice reasonably affordable upgrade within the Elektron minimalist design aproach and series)

Im hoping it drops next week, im champing at the bit over here with my DT2. Its gonna change the game for us single elektron box folks. Cant wait to run drums, samples, synths, loops all on their own mixer channels/fx and into ableton on SEPARATE tracks all at once! Its gonna be awesome.

I was just thinking the same thing. I hadn’t heard of the MAT until today and it seems it’s now available to preorder. It looks to be possibly even more capable.

Help me please I get lost in all this USB midi stuff. If I wanted to use the outbox but wanted to keep a USB midi out what’s the solution?
I already use my midi din out into a midi splitter to control synths and my usb midi out to control an expert sleepers FH2.
I do have a spare din midi out of that helps?
The outbox not having usb midi thru seems like a bit of an oversight to me.

My understanding regarding USB MIDI is that all USB connected devices, e.g. PC, synths, keyboards etc., share the same MIDI messages. So USB MIDI through is not / should not be necessary.
