Elektron has killed all other gear for me

don’t know about you but i have not really been able to go near anything else with any conviction for a good while now - i had a bit of a vintage roland moment and some dave smith flirtations but i keep coming back to elektron…

for me it’s more like made it hard to use anything else without also using my Elektron instruments, they literally make using everything else better for me, they are joined at the hip to everything else I use.

I get it. I don’t think it’s killed all other gear for me, but I find myself comparing to Elektron a lot — especially around build quality and user interface.

For example, with the Korg Opsix, I found the interface somewhat similar to Elektron. Probably because the encoders follow a similar pattern, where each encoder controls a parameter of the same position on the screen. It felt cheap and plasticky, so found myself modding it with a steel enclosure, probably to be more like Elektron. Even after that, I still feel like it’s not quite at the level of Elektron’s quality.

I still like other gear. I used trackers before I ever used Elektron, so I’m still totally down with that kind of thing. When I use Renoise or the M8, I don’t feel like it’s “less than Elektron”. There are a few other instruments that I still like a lot, but I do compare stuff to Elektron. And I’m not an old school Elektron person… I only started after the first Digitakt came out, but the Octatrack is my real Elektron addiction — almost nothing comes close to it for me.

Drambo has killed most gear for me…at least with a 13" ipad. BUT, i just bought a DT2 so might be on the way back!

This is how I feel. I find myself watching gear reviews but always end up clicking off the video or article, and thinking - yeah, that has a couple nice features but could never fully replace my DT or DN, so why bother?

Might also have something to with the fact I’m old and don’t have the time to learn a bunch of new interfaces, haha. I’m happy with Elektron.

Elektron was my gateway drug into modular. The Octatrack, specifically, cracked open my brain and gave me a desire for more interactivity between my playing and the tools.

Elektron has set the standard for me in most areas, but I cannot imagine using my Elektron boxes without a Roland close by to handle polyphonic parts and ROMpler sounds.

When I got the Syntakt, I told myself I’d spend a couple weeks using it standalone, to get used to the workflow and learn it well.

Little did I know that I wouldn’t want to touch another piece of gear for the next few months! I spent so long talking myself into the big purchase (most I’ve ever spent on a single piece of gear) and now I have to talk myself into using my other stuff :upside_down_face:

Unfortunately, this experience is making it so much easier to talk myself into getting a DN, and a DT, and a…

Almost everything goes through and/or is sequenced by my Syntakt. All I want is modules now to save space and play them with the keyboard fold!

Think drambo is buggy and quite bad sounding compared to all hardware ive tried ^^ especially elektrons

Huh…I sequence multiple synths in my ipad with drambo and it’s great for me.

dt2 plus ipad allowed me to pretty much sell everything else

elektron workflow is addictive / audio over usb is now essential for me bc my neurodivergence cannot handle cables everywhere

Elektron is even in my profile picture now…

The only thing I see remaining are the things with keys… DNK or AK are tempting but just too big for my desk.

What do you use for a Poly synth though? Digitone? What about Analogue Poly. The A4 is better as a mono. If Elektron did an Analogue poly id say slam dunk.
