Elektron CV16: 16-channel CV sequencer concept mockup

I really like working with the CV tracks on the A4. So much that I designed a Eurorack module to more easily integrate modular systems with the A4 (see http://grayscale.info/modules/synapse/ for info). But with a big modular system or a few standalone analog synths the four outputs get used up pretty quickly. I’d love to see a dedicated Elektron sequencer box with a ton of CV outputs (and possibly CV inputs for external clock sync and parameter modulation). Each channel would have a bipolar LED on the front panel to show what’s going on with each output. Wouldn’t mind a MIDI sequencing output too. Concept mockup attached for discussion. Let’s do this, Elektron!

I seriously doubt that Elektron will venture into this territory though! Pseen mentions Cirklon & that covers this ground amply with so much more too!

Yes, one can dream though… I never had much interest in the Cirklon for some reason and would rather have another black box from Sweden to go along with my dark trinity

Of course, the Cirklon is a monster Sequencer, but the sequencer of A4 or even imagine it as AK would have the advantage that a user of elektron machines would already be familiar with its concept. The user interface of the cirklon is a totally different animal to tame.

That is the idea – would be great to keep the Elektron paradigm vs having a different type of interface.

A gate is just a type of CV, if you know the A4 already then you know that the four “CV outputs” can be programmed as any type of control voltage (including gates). This was a smart move on Elektron’s part because if you’re sequencing a modular you don’t necessarily need a traditional CV/Gate pair as you would for sequencing something like a Pro One.

My one gripe with the Cirklon is that you can’t be in Pattern Edit & flip Tracks to see what’s going on. You have to hit Track, select Track then hit Pattern. That’s 3 button presses compared to Elektrons 1, (once you’re in track edit mode).
Doesn’t sound like much but it adds up & really slows things down, certainly for live use!

Edit… Actually you can, whilst in Pattern mode hold Track & press Track number, switches Tracks while remaining in Pattern mode.

On the other hand, if you remove a trigger from the Cirklon then later reinstate it, all its values are remembered. It’s like only the trig is removed, all plocks remain, wish the Elektrons did that, unless you expressly delete the Track.
Work around on the newer machines of course are Track mutes which are lovely

You can remove note- trigs and keep the p-locks to in the A4 to , by holding the function button while erasing the step.

Would love to see this.
Would be good to replace the mini-keyboard buttons from the A4 with a small capacitive touch keyboard (like a cross between those on the volca keys and the buchla easel) whereby you could route gate, and 2 or 3 CVs for X/Y position and pressure.

Yeah as vos says this is another way to do it but bear in mind your p.locks will remain active, any long notes will pitch to the new value.
The Cirklon will do this too if you want but you can remove each Aux trig individually. It’s like removing any lock but still being able to see its last used status.
Say you program 4 notes C E G A on the A4.
Now p.lock a delay send of 20 40 60 80 respectively.
Next whilst jamming away you decide to remove a couple of locks. Later you come back to it & want to reinstate them, you have no point of reference.
The Cirk would show this value greyed out.
Yes there are work arounds like saving the pattern before changing stuff etc, I just think it’s a nice touch on Sequentix part
Btw there is an easy shortcut on the Cirk to Switch patterns I’d just not seen it at the time. In Pattern mode hold a Track & press the corresponding encoder, voilà:-)
