Elektron and mio XL interface

You can disregard my comments about the dirty port then, I agree that it should not get dropouts after sitting in a dusty environments for half a year.

I have a Cisco switch sitting somewhere in my studio and I havent touched it in years, I’m pretty sure that thing is dusty by now. Never had a single dropout, if I’m not mistaken that thing is over 15 years old(not sure, got it used from a friend for free).

Regarding the latency:
When going from DIN to USB MIDI, the added latency should be about 1ms maximum.
So, a total latency of about 1.5ms should be expected when USB is in the mix.
If it’s more than that something’s not right.

I have an Expert Sleepers audio to MIDI system(ES-3, ES-5, 3x ESX-8MD).
I also have an iConnectMIDI4+ and a MIO 10, I’ll try to come up with a good way to test all of this.

I’ve had no issues at all. Certain gear doesn’t work via USB with it for some reason. I know my Medusa did not work properly and it was a known issue. Otherwise, everything has been smooth sailing.

I’ve bought the XL. Such a nice interface and the connectivity options are awesome. . Now trying my best to climb out of a world of hurts. :)))

Ok. MioXL is very cool. Thanks again for the recommendations. I have a solid and tight timing with the MPC over the mioxl to my synthesizers. Everything is connected with dins with the exception of the MPC. I have the MPC connected to the USB DAW port on the mioxl. Now all midi ports of the mio are visible on the MPC.

I still have to test the MPC using regular midi ports on the mioxl. By now I feel like connecting my pc with regular dins too. I would like to slave Ableton to the MPC for side chaining of incoming audio. (Ableton link, or slave dunno)

Next stop: Elektron boxes. I feel that the combination of elektron sequencer in combination with the MPC is a killer combo.

Hello All,

Hoping someone on this thread can help with a peculiar occurrence between my digi boxes and MioXM. I have setup my digitakt as the main sequencer to my digitone via midi. Setup/Performance is fine for the most part. However, this is what occurs: 1) the top row of lights on my MioXM module flash repeatedly with my setup. I’ve discovered that this is driven by my turning on “Clock Send” in the Sync page in the Midi Config menu on the digitakt. When I turn off Clock Send, the blinking stops, but the digitone does not sync/play with the digitakt. I have modified all other MIDI settings in the digitakt to make this stop, but only turning off Clock Send seems to be the only solution. I’ve also tried using the Filter checkboxes in the MioXM Auracle software with no luck.

My questions are: has anyone else encountered this issue? And if so, is there a way to stop this from occurring? Bottom line, there’s no immediate negative impact to performance, but I am curious to know if I am setting something up incorrectly.

If my summary is too vague, I can provide additional details for my setup for reference. To start off with, both digital boxes MIDI In and Outs are connected to the MioXM module; all send/receive options are selected in the digitakt and only receive options are checked in the digitone.

Thanks!

Hey, I think that is normal. I have the xl and while the whole top row doesn’t flash, the ‘din-midi’ light steady blinks while inhale the octatrack sending clicking it. I imagine the other lights would also blink if I had clock go to or from USB, etc.

Just wanted to add to the stream of praise. I’m using 1 XL and 2 XM with an iMac, MBPro, Maschine+ and MPC all as “hosts” on their own network using a couple of IO Gear switches. Pretty amazing once you get it all setup (which admittedly can be daunting at first). As above, I need to use both DIN and USB with some devices that have computer integration or librarians etc. Another minor issue is if you try to use the Auracle software on 2 computers at the same time, the MIO devices cannot always be discovered.

Thanks! I’m definitely not a MIDI expert with hardware/software, so I appreciate the feedback.

Just to confirm with @Ahaas1138 was saying. A green status light indicates midi data (incl. clock) going out from that port, red status light means incoming midi data. Might not be obvious (wasn’t for me when I got the MioXL) but you can actually touch each status light (DIN/USB/etc) and get a quick overview/midi monitor on the display to see which hardware ports are sending and receiving.

After many years of happy use, I’m now experiencing weird clock drift between my MioXM and my Octatrack. TR8s is master clock, sending through MioXM to OT.

Every 30 seconds or so, the tempo flashes about 3-4% lower than master (eg if TR8s is sending 120, OT will flash 115.X for a moment, then back to 120.) This results in a noticeable drift over 5 minutes, over a 16th note of difference!

The problem is a combination of the Mio and my OT, which is super weird. I:

  • Tested simultaneously with DN - DN stayed solid (0.1 jitter in both directions), OT drifts
  • Tested other midi cables - OT drifts
  • Tested direct midi out from TR8s to OT midi in, no MioXM in between - no drift

I have a huge gig coming up next month, this is causing me a lot of anxiety…
