Elektron advice

Hi Elektronauts,

I am looking to get back into grooveboxing. I want to come away from my computer and try and make musical works elsewhere. I’ve worked with Korg Electribes in the past (even have the new electribe 2 on order) and I have been looking at a lot of impressive videos on YouTube involving the Electron range.

I prefer to step sequence as my live playing is nonexistent. My sound ranges from melodic synths to chugging hi energy acidy synth electro house things

I want a machine that I can do drums on and have some tracks left for a bassline and some melodies. At first, I thought the Mono machine would do the job then I saw the Analog Four. A warm big sounding beast. However, I’m worried about not having enough tracks. Could one easily make, say a full acid style track on an A4? Analogue drums, a squelshing slidey bass line, and room for more?

Could I run an A4 along side an electribe in sync with ease?

Is the A4 even the right Elektron for me?

still I would recommend the MD uw … get a used one without the uw feature, and see how it fits you … then you will quickly wanna sample some synth samples into it, hence giving you what you want… mighty drums with some gnarly base synthy sounds …

You can do a lot with the A4. Its a definitely a acid house weapon. You get four tracks plus a FX track and an additional cv track to control modular gear or something like a Arturia Microbrute. The four internal tracks are versatile. You can do your entire drum section in one track leaving three more tracks to do your bass, melodies and synth parts. you can midi sync the Electribe to the A4 and have a serious combo. Its worth looking into it.

Yes.

With all due respect to TrabanT, I don’t think you should consider the Machinedrum as your first Elektron, given the needs that you expressed in your post.

Yeah, with an A4 I reckon you’ll easily have enough tracks coupled with the Electribe, and a nice analog partner for the digital.

Thanks guys. The analog four is sounding like the one for me. Just got to save a bit more money.

Can you record automation on the fly and if so, can you edit/fine tune the automation afterwards?
