I will try to attend this Monday. I hope to dine at the Mayflower Pub in Rotherhithe beforehand. If anyone else is planning to be there, I look like my avatar, minus the eclipse glasses.
Had a nice time at Frequent at the Axis last night. Got to meet and briefly chat with @Automageddon and see the small but fierce community of southeast Londoners on decks and devices. The place is in the middle of nowhere, though (~20 min walk to the two closest Overground stations, apparently no buses to help).

Iāve recently moved to Greenwich so nearer to this but have drum classes on Mondays ending at 8pm. Whenās too late to arrive at such a thing? Otherwise will have to be an outside of term time attendance. Would love to come.

I have a question for everyone who organizes an EMOM and fills the slots with artists in advance: Do you have the feeling that the name āElectronic Music Open Micā is misleading? I had an exchange with potential guests the other day. They were a bit irritated that the name doesnāt fit the structure of the evening/program.

I can relate. To me (as a native german speaker) āopen mic/stageā implicates that walk-ins and spontaneous participations are encouraged, which contradicts filling all available slots with a fully set line-up in advance. So yeah, the name of the event can be a bit misleading.
At least in our case (Frankfurt).
Reason being, that we needed some planning security for the first event, because there is no way to guess how many artists will show up to the premiere of a formerly non-existent event in Ffm.

Would be quite nice (and potentially awful) to have a night with stuff already set up. I feel like:
MIDI sequencer
Drum synth
Keyboard synth
Effects unit
Would do. Samplers are hard as lots of tweaking needed and everyone wants different samples.
Would have to be plug and play allow quick reset between each set, no set up time equipment.
Would also allow people with no experience have a play maybe in a quiet 5 mins a slot bit at the start.
You could even do fun challenges like put someone on effects paired with a random other on the other bits.
I also think pairing up vocalists with electronic musicians at these things would be nice. Or even acoustic instrument players.

Interesting idea. This would be a whole different concept though, requiring another framing of the event, imho.

Still, it would be nice to present an opportunity like this to (inexperienced) people who would like to get their hands on some hardware.
OR an evening with a ādo what you can with the gear already thereā motto.

I think the difference between a normal open mic and and EMOM is that thereās probably a lot more people with acoustic guitars looking to express themselves down the pub on a Tuesday night.
It can be quite an expensive exercise organising an EMOM and if you canāt guarantee numbers, youāre going to struggle to keep it going.
I think once things are nicely established and nights are getting good, regular and reliable attendances, maybe things can be a bit more āturn up on the nightā, but itās a big gamble when you havenāt got any sort of community built around you yet.

If you want an actual show up, plug in and play (as long as there are slots) Frequent offers that every Wednesday. Sometimes there are guests booked but still slots available on a first come first served basis
