Hey guys
I’d like to hook up a basic electric drum kit to the digitakt and use it to midi trigger/control the 8 sample channels, to record drum lines. Is this possible? Would you just midi out from the drum brain into the digitakt? do you need the drum brain? or am I missing something?
Cheers
you got drums? e drums that is?
Not yet I’m just looking at the alesis sample pad pro, it has midi out on it so I guess that might work?
I suppose my next question would be , would the sample tracks on the digitakt pick up the velocity information and record samples at different volumes as they are triggered on the pads.
I use a KMI BopPad to do just that. You can play it with hands or sticks, it will send velocity to the Digitakt. It will also send radius info, so you can for example have a hand drum that changes pitch as you get closer to the edge of the drum. Works really well for me. You can set up 4 zones on the pad to trigger different audio tracks
(edit to clarify: it doesn’t send radius, it takes radius (and continuous pressure) and can convert those into CCs that you can control the DT with).
Awesome, thanks
Think ill go for a alesis percussion pad with a foot trigger.
Cool! I don’t know the Alesis, but I assume it will work similarly, for velocity at least. Enjoy!
Do you use a MIDI host? Or does the KMI have MIDI out?
No it has to go through a host. KMI sell a MIDI expander for it, but I just go through my Mac since I work with DAW anyway. It’s pretty slim, so there wouldn’t be space for normal MIDI DIN ports anyway.
