Is there a way to use a track such as kick as a dummy sidechain for others and for external audio in?
I can set up the sidechain ducking for all desired tracks and external in, but the moment I mute the kick trigger track the sidechain source disappears an so it no longer functions.
Just wondering if there’s away around this to have a sidechain trigger source such as kick that is silent / muted?
It’s a little bit fiddly to set up but you can use LFO ducking in place of the compressor. It’s not too bad though. I’ll find you a video with the setup instructions and you can decide for yourself.
This was the preferred method with og digitakt because the compressor didn’t sidechain very effectively.
My bad I missed the external audio in part. You’re correct, because you aren’t sequencing audio from the mixer input, you’re just merging it.
I think you’re SOL.
Ummm… try setting up a track which doubles the kick track and then change the route to main settings, so the new track is not sent to the main outs and make that track the kick source. See if that still triggers the sidechain when the other is muted.
If it’s not routed to main it should be inaudible, but I think it still impacts the mix, you’ll have to try it though because I’ve never done it.
You could try this pretty easily by just temporarily removing your existing kick track from the main and see if the ducking continues. If that works, set up the other track.
