DT2: what does it to recorded sample?

I think it could be good to use another word if we don’t want to confuse each other :slight_smile: And it might be easier to understand what is actually happening, or what the perceived problem is

I think it should be pretty easy to test? E.g:

• Send a recording going through the DT inputs via usb to a daw
• Sample that same recording into the DT, play it back and record that via usb to the daw
• Compare, if the volume is different, gain match and compare again. Make a null test

No, of course not. In that particular case, it just “clips different”

Wish I could be of more practical help, but I’ve never owned a digitakt of any kind…

As a practical example, we use this sort of “tools” at the office for tackling reel to reel tapes recorded “too hot” in order to not clip the AD converters: (ignore the blurb about microphones - an XLR is an XLR is an XLR). you could use these also with Elektron boxes, you’d just need to convert a TRS into XLR cable and back, by using TRS-XLR cables… (unless impedance balanced TRS doesnt neatly convert into XLR?)

What bugs me is that what you monitor is not what you get in the end.
It definitely should, IMO. Isn’t it the purpose of monitoring?

But otherwise, yes, adding an old cassette player before DT inputs is a nice and cheap way to distort incoming audio ^^

Yeah, it wouldn’t hurt to reconcile what they’re experiencing and step back to walk through what is happening with someone more informed on architecture / design so it can be better mapped to each stage of the process.
