DT - When is midi channel sent?

When is MIDI bank/channel data sent? It doesn’t seem to be on PLAY, or on load pattern.

I don’t understand your question. Could you tell us what you are trying to do and what (if anything) is not working?

For example:

  • Are you trying to send MIDI notes from the Digitakt’s MIDI sequencer tracks to external gear?
  • Are you trying to synchronize pattern changes with another instrument?

Apologies, I meant bank/program, not channel. I want to set bank/program on an external synth, Hydrasynth and Minilogue XD in this case. When I’m turning the Program knob, it’s mirrored on the respective synths. But if I change program on either, it’s not changed back to the DT setting when I load the pattern or start the sequence. I assumed it would be on PLAY. I’m sure this is something fundamental that I’m missing. Thanks

The DT will, I believe, not send the same value twice in succession.

So when does it send it initially? Let’s say I come back to this pattern after a while, and I want my synths to load up correctly. When is bank/program data sent?

Workaround : always use DT to change the Programs (Presets).

Thanks for the replies, but I guess I’m not being very clear on my question. I set SBNK and PROG in DT on the SRC page. All good. So now when I come back to this pattern, it should send SBNK (1) PROG (37) to the Hydrasynth. Does it do that on Patter load? On PLAY? What is the inititating event for sending bank/program to the synths?

Yes. Same annoying behavior.
If you want to send it again :

  • Change again the value manually
  • Use an additional trig with a different value on the track
  • Use a different pattern sending a different Prog Change on the same channel
  • Power cycle

For information, double stop sends the SYNC page Prog Change if activated. Not related to midi tracks Prog Changes.

It is sent only once, at the beginning of the pattern. If sent once, you have to send a different one to sent it again. Awkward, Elektron way. :sketchy:

I just tried double stop, that didn’t send it. So when you guys say “send it again,” when is it sent the first time? When I come back to this pattern after, say, six months. When does DT send the bank/prog change I have stored in it?

I’ve tried going to a different pattern, then coming back to this one, it didn’t send

I don’t know exactly because I don’t have a DT, but it will if you change from another pattern to that pattern while the instrument is playing. It may well also do so on power-up.

If the change is not happening for you on change of patterns it may be because you have not activated PRG CH SEND in the SETTINGS > MIDI CONFIG > SYNC menu on the DT. What have you set there? What have you set for PROGRAM CH OUT CHANNEL in the CHANNELS sub-menu?

Sorry to add confusion. I said double stop sends SYNC PAGE Prog Change (only, not midi tracks Prog Changes.)

Yes, PROG CH SEND is on, and P CH channel is AUTO (14)

And what are your relevant MIDI settings on the target synths?

Yes it sends it again after a power cycle.

This is for pattern SYNC only, not related to midi tracks.

Read again my posts, you’ll have answers. I just checked with DT and a midi monitor.

Here’s what worked - the pattern I’m coming from has to have a Hydrasynth (CH 11) prog change on it. Then come back to other pattern, hit play, and it sent the prog change. So I guess I need to have every one of my synths on every pattern with prog changes for this feature to work. Otherwise it’s just for “record keeping.”

IMHO the simplest is to set it manually again to send it again.

Thanks, yes, looks like. But the DT is a computer after all, which are pretty good at doing stuff like this by themselves. Something as elementary as this would be a nice feature to have. I thought this would be an easy one, e.g., “it sends on play” But as you said, I guess it’s the Elektron way.
