DT + DN via Overbridge on PC - is Overhub a must?

Hi
I have a Digitone and ordering Digitakt now
Plan to use them via Overbridge in Ableton (PC) - would they work simultaneously (i.e. both would stream all 8+4 audio tracks with no issues) using ‘regular’ USB hub? I’m currently using i-tec USB 3.0 Charging HUB 10 port
Or do I need to have Overhub from Elektron specifically?

So it’s good I guess, correct (i.e. better to have it separated from main tracks)? Or how would it work differently? Would Overhub allow for different mode of operation?

What I meant is you will have the FX of every Tracks of the DT on one Audio Track in your DAW. The same goes for the DN.

Ok, I see
So using both DT+DN at the same time, I’d have 14 audio tracks in total - 9 for DT (8 tracks + 1 FX) and 5 for DN (4 tracks + 1 FX)
It sounds good - I believe it’s better to have FX as separate track (it’s anyway one global FX with sends, and not separate FX per track like on bigger boxes) than to have it ‘merged’ with main audio tracks

If you want to Record every Tracks separately, yes.

The advise with the DT and DN is to use no hub at all when possible.

I was more concerned whether there’s something special about Overhub (or any hub with MTT - whatever it is :slight_smile: ) that is needed to make it work

The only scenario when you need an MTT hub like Overhub is if you have both an old machine (AF MkI or AR MkI) and a newer machine at the same time.

The bigger boxes also use send effects. the OT is the only one that has insert fx but obviously predates overbridge.

A bit technical, and maybe a bit off topic, but MTT doesn’t actually exist in USB 3.0 and later.
It only exists on USB 2.0 hubs.

A USB 3.0 hub that supports both USB 1.1, 2.0 and 3.0 at the same time is essentially a USB 3.0 hub with a single-port USB 1.1/2.0 hub at the end of each port.
The hub reconfigures itself when connecting/disconnecting devices and inserts the extra hub when needed. The data stream in USB 3.0 is always transferred at the same rate.

A USB 2.0 MTT hub can actually interleave USB 1.1 data into the 2.0 stream.

Check your Windows device manager to see how it’s all connected.
