Read thru this entire thread this AM as I have a Tempest (my first!) coming today… thanks so much for the contributions everyone. The plan is to combine it with my A4 Mk2 and MPC One+ as the production centerpieces of my setup.
Contact mic on the lid of the hopper, and the grinder becomes an oscillator…

Cheers!
Hey folks, just about to join the club….
Ive watched some cool videos by “carsonday303” but they all end 14 years ago…anyone know what Carson is doing now…is he still a Sequential employee? Shame he didnt keep going with the occasional Tempest video jam.
Carson is giving a clinic on Sequential’s Fourm at Robotspeak in San Francisco on Nov 8th…
Since I have some percussion tuning setups across both tempests I thought to have them joined together. I like having the mixer in the middle cos that’s where it goes but having tempest and OTs grouped has its advantages. Alas since o changed the setup I’ve been busy with other shite but will have a pop this weekend
Hey thats great to hear!
Love his demos on the tempest…thanks ![]()
Next obvious question for noob:
Anyone know artists that use the Tempest?
I know Andy Stott uses one live…and saw the video of the 2WEQ guys doing a set from earlier in the thread…but interested to hear any other artists ?
Reptant is a Tempest wizard.
Thats insane ive been listening to his stuff loads lately and didnt know…will be cool to revist now ta mate! ![]()
Linking to a post of mine from Feb 2023 for some live/studio Ilian Tape artist Tempest usage:
The Andrea live performance is cool.
Yeah ive just checked and i follow Illian Tapes from back in the day and actually had an Andrea album in my wishlist…the boiler room i will watch defo.
Cheers buddy
I think Andrea was just using a kick from the Tempest at points, it’s been a while since I watched the vid mind you. Makes me question the value of bringing a boutique analogue to a gig versus samples, though I guess it made the performance stick in my mind which is valuable!
It felt like the Tempest was a bit of an Ilian Tape signature for a while so maybe they did it to reinforce their identity? Either way it was cool ![]()
I guess if your sat in a bedroom with limited space its a pretty versatile sound design tool.
It’s hands-down the most flexible, deep synthesiser to ever be sold as a drum machine. So much so, that it’s detrimental to the majority of users, including myself. ![]()
Love it to bits though.
Gear so nice you bought it twice… twice!
If I buy another model 1 you will know I have a problem….
Or two more Octatracks and two more tempests
Seems sensible really.
I may just buy a large mirror
