after the announcement of the new RYTM MKII and the associated price drop for older boxes I’m curious to hear your opinion about getting a drum machine second hand… silver box MD UW + or a RYTM MKI? I really would like to add one of those to my OT.
The prices dropped after the big news last week; in numbers: MD UW is out for 750 – 900 € while RYTM is about 950 – 1200 € for a second hand unit.
where do u see value? ok, it’s digital vs analog – ctrl all vs cond. trigs – silver vs black …
just let me know which one to pick for these prices. thanks and have fun!
I know you don’t want to hear this, but it’s a silly question. It depends entirely on your needs/desires. Which do you prefer the overall sound of? Do you need to be able to sample? Do you need conditional trigs? Do you need midi sequencing?
That said, you’ll probably get a Rytm MkI cheaper now that you’ll ever get one. So you could always buy one now, see how you like it, then sell it for an MD if you want.
The RYTM WOULD be the cheaper entry fee, but I’m not sure if it’s resale ability- as I think most users will want to spend the extra money on the sampling feature and the current owners are trying to eliminate their loss of resale.
The MDUW has excellent drum synths. I love it-personally. Quite excellent for most electronic sounding percussion- better for mids and highs, while the RYTM is a low master. Your call, though. If you GOTTA have good lows, go RYTM- if you’re looking for a good over the spectrum drummachine go MDUW
