Dreadbox Artemis

This is from Dreadbox after I reached out to support with a few questions.

"There is a firmware update around the corner!

It has addressed the clicky envelopes issue and offers full Midi CC implementation (including support of Programm changes)."

Artemis firmware 1.1 should be available within the next few days  Lots of great new features, fixes, and enhancements - do make sure to view the whole release notes document when all is published.

Nice, having a manual mode is great for this kind of synth. Let us know if the envelope and tuning issues are fixed now!

It can really go dark and cinematic! Ofc the fx adds to it.

Never had tuning issues and the clickiness is gone. :+1:

Amazona’s Juliane Wolf just wrote an apt summary of what makes the ARTEMIS special Dreadbox Artemis: Analog trifft modern (the update release was in Aug 25, not May 25)

Thanks, great review! I was surprised she emphasized it as pad machine and modulation powerhouse. I didn’t expect it to have its strengths there. Would have been nice if she also compared it to Teo 5.

ARTEMIS is no way limited to pads, it can do anything but soundwise it is hard to compare, it just has a sound of its own.

I caved and got an Artemis and it delivered today. I definitely hear the high pitch noise from the screen everyone was talking about. Are folks just dealing with it at this point? Are there some units that have no high pitch sound at all? Mine was new from perfect circuit.

Mine didn’t have the screen noise, but my screen died. Replacement Artemis has no screen noise.

some short ARTEMIS demos from me, the first sound demonstrates the impact of the waveshaper dial. The rest is “played” on the computer keyboard, just to provide some more impressions. Mostly custom sounds, only Artemis, no ext treatment - enjoy;)

The thing I’ve been struggling with Artemis is figuring out how to pair it with a live band. I have several guitarists, bassist, flutist, vocalists and drums. It’s hard enough getting some other synths in there but I’d like to find a way to use Arte here.

Personally, I’ve only been able to come up with thick bass and immense pads, and some crazy FM sounds. Do you have any recommendations or presets I maybe missed that are a bit more focused and less drifty-into-outer-spacey?

Don’t know what type of music your band is playing, but generally to give others more room would mean to me to tame the per se large Artemis sound by

  • being careful with fx dosing
  • check, in which song you can “occupy” which part of the frequency range and where your mates are playing in it. What is your role in which song, where are the overlaps, where you want to double another instrument, etc…
  • use a bid of highpass filter sometimes
  • use the wave folder (it can go from thin to fat depending on other parameters)
  • dose modulations
  • decide if both OSC are needed for the song and especially if the SUB is needed
  • use the spread knob according to song
  • and in general do a lot of programming
The Artemis takes time to learn (as with any complex instrument) at least i can spend hours and hours and am improving even after years of use

Hi, wow I haven’t posted here for 10 years!? Time flies. This thread was super useful when researching Artemis.

Here’s a Digitakt 2 track where all synth sounds are sampled from Artemis. Having a blast with the midi cc update. There are some chopped cc modulated bass sounds as well as longer Euclidean sequences with buildup / breakdown parts baked into the samples:
