Dominion Club VS Roland SE-02

I can’t decide what my next purchase should be… Dominion Club or the SE-02, to go with a Digitakt and a 0-Coast, for mobile services. They are both exactly what I’d want from a monosynth, so it’s a tough decition.
If anybody has both, I’d love to get your opinion.

Don’t own both, have demo both.

My personal preference was with the dominion. The sound and build were worth the entry fee.

The se, although nice enough, left me feeling like I would be short changed. The sound was OK, but not what I expected and the build quality/size of things bugged me and would’ve been an issue for me the further along I went.

I think with the Roland I was expecting it to be something like those classic old machines which it isn’t, and that’s what my issue was. So personal taste.

Personal taste it is, I think. I bought an SE-02 but was sorely tempted by the Dominion Club. I personally wanted the more classic 3-osc & moog filter sound to offset my digital-dominated setup but I appreciate what the Club is doing.

Also, I wasn’t able to demo a Club in person but I felt the demos I had heard weren’t as impressive as the SE-02. But I’ve always really liked the sound of the Dominion so that probably speaks more to the quality of the demos than the synth.

Would like to have both, ideally.

Similar specs, it’ll probably come down to something as subjective as feel, build quality, aesthetics etc. Try them both hands-on if you can.

Personally I’d be a bit annoyed by the tiny knobs on the SE.

The knobs are quite small on the Club too, but looks to be not as tightly packed as the SE02.

I own a Dominion Club and think it’s great, but I haven’t used the SE02.

I’d rather have the Dominion Club because of the morphable filter with notch, and the digital FM oscillator. Especially, considering you already have a Digitakt to sequence it with too. Ultimately, I’d choose a Pioneer Toraiz AS-1 over both though. It just sounds so good.

@Prints- The dominion club has both notch and bandpass filters. Although the filter doesn’t label it as such, if you put the filter knob into the exact halfway point between LP and HP you get a bandpass. It’s not quite as controllable as a dedicated bandpass, but it does the same job as long as you get the knob in the right spot.

As for the OP/thread, I bought 2 clubs and 0 SE-02. The reasons were simple: I bought a club and loved it (and still love it) and hadn’t tried an SE-02 yet. I have several friends who bought an SE-02, and all of them have sold it within a month or so of owning it.

I haven’t yet heard a story of anyone I know selling a Club after trying it out. That said, less people bought clubs since MFB didn’t even tell people on their own mailing list that it was available for purchase. I definitely give MFB the award for smallest marketing budget. They actually seem to actively oppose making sales, haha! But I love their Dominion/Tanz product lines, and the synth II was great too.

Also worth mentioning is that the build quality on the Club is quite good compared to past MFB products. The solid metal chassis gives me comfort, and the knobs are quite solid and never wiggle side-to-side. After seeing over 20 SE-02 demos on youtube, it looked like the knobs had parkinson’s disease. No idea whether that was just an issue with early pre-production or if it’s still the case.
