Does your live setup = studio setup (or how to be happy with a minimal studio setup)?

I remember enjoying this a lot at some point on the gear obsession journey.
Not quite Tempest only but same idea, Tempest + (OT) fx mostly.

Also, been interested in MPC live recently, that could definitely be a live setup = studio setup especially with the 2.10 update.

I’ve always been happiest with a minimal setup for studio use but I prefer a hybrid setup where hardware generates ideas and the song is finished in my DAW. I used to have a pretty big setup and even with patchbays for MIDI and audio I feel like the hardware slowed me down and ideas got fuzzy when I couldn’t quickly get something down. And then there was the tendency to want to try and shove each piece of gear into every song while resisting using the DAW/computer for simple things that, lets be honest, no one cares if it came from hardware or not (example: adding finishing touches like reversed hats for risers etc).

It’s dangerous to talk about Tempest…

I’d like to hear more about this setup.

My studio process is too slapdash to be coherent in a live setting. I play back and edit mixed stems of my songs using an APC40. However it’s definitely possible to do something improvisational with a few key elements - always been impressed with what Blawan/Karenn pull off. Surgeon also has a rig that he put together specifically for live performances. Here’s a video of him explaining that process:
