Does *anyone* have a solid Overbridge setup?

My main question is: Does anyone have a solid Overbridge setup?

I’m using all the latest updates on the device firmware, Overbridge version, macOS and Logic, but this has also happened in past versions of all the above.

For me, it’s guaranteed in every session that it will disconnect randomly, requiring an unpair/repair for the device to restore audio and sync. For the Rytm MkII, I get a “pause” symbol on the display (like || next to the BPM, where it should have a play symbol when working correctly). This pauses the sequencer.

On top of that, it randomly starts the sequencer on the Rytm during the recording count-in, usually 2 beats before the recording should start.

In both cases, this renders Overbridge nearly useless for something like a recording workflow (let alone using it Live - definitely not an option). I’ve submitted a support ticket to Elektron. Not sure if it actually went through as I received an auto-reply asking me to fill out my name and address on my elektron account. Utterly frustrating nonsense.

So, anyhow - I doubt there can be much troubleshooting here. I’ve tried various buffer sizes, disconnecting wifi, closing other programs. My only other guess is perhaps the physical connection of the USB hub, or too much data being transferred. Is this just something with my setup, or is it still the case the Overbridge doesn’t quite work?

It’s pretty well-known that USB hubs can get in the way of proper USB audio/midi happiness or satisfaction. Have you tried without the hub?

Have you seen the other recent threads about USB-C to B cables vs adapters etc.?

I dont want to jinx it but I have had success with the chroma cable that plugs into my digitakt and then is usb c so it goes straight into my macbook pro.

Honestly I think the rytm Mkii may have issues with OB, because I had random disconnects with device as well. But that’s not a fact or anything.

Anyway, what you can do is try a quality usb B to C cable so your device goes straight into the macbook. Then try recording the rytm in standalone overbridge, don’t even mess with the DAW. Use default settings (latency doesnt matter, the recorder in OB just records all the WAVs and then you can drop them into your DAW after).

The recorder is a little tape casette icon when you open the standalone app.

To answer your question though, i have a solid OB set-up that runs for days at a time.

For the USB-C cable, it’s something generic from Thomann.

Honestly that cable is probably fine. Not worth spending money. I am seriously curious if the Rytm is not great with OB when running on Mac M1 Os. Its just crazy how an A4 ran perfectly over it and my DT has been fantastic. I have a macbook M1 pro with Ventura.

I’ve never had trouble recording A4mk1/AK/DN/ST with Overbridge. Used a Mac with M1 and a Mac with Core i5. Note that I stay on previous-generation macOSes. Maybe one time things seemed “off” so I made sure USB was set to Overbridge and rebooted the computer and the instrument, and it was fine after that. Sometimes I use direct record and sometimes I use a DAW.

No troubles here - I run Digitakt, Digitone, and Syntakt via OverBridge into Reaper - Windows 10. Works very well and seems very stable. Also, all Digis run through a powered USB 10-input hub

I use Windows 10 and Ableton on a 8 year old MSI laptop with an older I7 processor two SSD hds, and 16 gb of ram. After the most recent OB updates I haven’t had any problems. Prior to the most recent OB update, my MK1’s would start sporadically going MIA and glitch out if i had them both on. Worse yet would be when i turned one on while using the other in OB. That’s been ironed out for me, and I haven’t had any issues to speak of, even with all my gear plugged in.

Failed to mention I use two, 7 slot, powered USB hubs. The powered part is important as with uncovered ones I ran into all kinds of drops and problems, and not just with midi, but mouse, keyboards, thumb drives, etc…
