I use LUNA sometimes because it sounds soooo good. I create in it, midi and audio. I bough the Essentials bundle a while back and already owned the Studer and Ampex tape simulations. I really dig the Neve Summing and the Ampex on the master bus — the quality of output alone is worth the excursion to LUNA.
I find the UI to be quite a departure from the more common DAWs (no editor window etc) so it definitely takes getting used to, but given the sound quality of eg the summing extensions, it makes it a nice option for mixing AND creating.
Just last night I was going through my LUNA projects and thought to myself that I want to use it more for creation and mixing + maybe as a tape recorder for my hardware setup because it just sounds so lively…no idea what UAD did there, but to me it’s quite noticeable, in particular with the Neve Summing.
Thank you! That was kind of my impression. I’m personally a big fan of the shine that UA’s stuff can bring to a mix and from other anecdotal reports it sounded like it might be a great place to mix stems inside of. I’m working towards getting a more hybridized setup going again (soft-synths/guitars/bass/modular), so I’m not sure I’m ready to do all of it LUNA, but if I can just toss stems into it and get a less busy working environment that sounds great, it seems like that might really be a good way to focus workflow and get good results.
But I’ve bought an Apollo Solo and now I’m using Luna. I’m going daw with a commitment for the first time since Jesus wore shorts and fired sling shots at the neighbour’s cat.
if ur into recording any hardware and just want to sort all that out to end up with some proper arrangement and final mixes, ur defenitly good to go lunar…
wonder what took u so long to embrace audioworkstations for such things, since u are a truu recording artist, no matter what…
but since u seem always open to any sort of sonic creatice gear, i’d say, u gonna be a bitwigger someday…
there, where capturing anything from the outside and accoustic world mingles with anything u can whish for, that can be created itb only like nowhere else…
Ah cool, might give this a shot. What’s the plugin situation on the free version, is there enough essential stuff there to get a mix done?
edit: I installed it myself to have a look, there is literally nothing there except a tape sim, a basic midi arpeggiator and ‘shape’, a rompler with some synths and pianos. there’s a handful of fx but they’re only available within the ‘shape’ instrument. so for mixing your options are limited to a tape sim and that’s it. If you’re needing a free DAW on mac then garageband is a million times more capable.
