Anyone else do this? Or regularly think about doing it?
I think it’s become my barometer of how much I like certain pieces of kit… I’m always looking/considering buying another A4 mk2, or a Rytm, or I want a 2nd Novation Peak (50% motivated by having Twin Peaks).
I’ve currently got 2x Arturia Polybrutes, because I borrowed a friends before getting my own and I still have it… having one at home and one in my studio has been great for learning it fast.
I’m always looking at things I can have fixed in my studio, then duplicates I can move around or use at home…
I have two 0-Coasts, but that’s for crosspatching and additional functionality / routing options between the two rather than for doing stuff in different parts of my one-room studio flat
Haha, it did cross my mind to use them all at once, but I don’t have the mixer inputs, batteries or PSUs to use them all at the same time. Most I ever used together is 4.
If I was playing live and my setup relied on a particular piece of gear, I’d consider getting a backup. I’ve thought about a second Octatrack for this reason. My OT Mk1 sometimes has problems with the interface board connector, so I’d be wary of relying on it on tour. But Covid is still making live performance difficult here, so it’s not a concern right now.
I’ve currently got 2 Op-1s (want another)
I’ve had a dual Op-1 setup previously and had dual Octatracks alongside them.
I’ve had a dual Wavedrum setup and I’ve used 2 TC Electronic M3000 reverbs and 3 x TC Electronic Fireworx FX units (owned 6 Fireworx in total)
Had 2 Nord Drum 2’s for a short while. One for drums the other for melodic uses.
Had a Virus TI Polar at the same time as the TI Desktop and if remember correctly 2 Machinedrums, in that same setup. Had a Korg Oasys at that time too, but just 1 of those.
Nearly bought 2 Waldorf Iridiums last year. But bought my current Op-1s instead.
I have two MonoMachines, bought the second because I was concerned about the longevity of my MKl and wanted access to the added synth engines of the MKll.
I also bought a Behringer ms20 as a back up and companion for my og ms20
I got the first one and liked it, then added a second then a third, they work really well together, you can set them up to sync in interesting ways. Also they have very nice sounding oscillator and filter.
Then I started buying the odd one here and there to mod, for a little while I sold mod kits for them. Most of the others I bought were broken or cheap, I never intended to have more than 8, but some of the broken ones were fixed and modded.
