Do Movies Kind of Suck Now?

I wouldn’t rate many of those 1999 movies that highly, not that they’re bad but they seem more “iconic” and important because they were able to occupy a more central place in culture at the time, and there was far less commercial product around.

what should I do, build a cinema for myself?
I know I can watch them “in comfort of my own home”, but i like going to cinema, eat popcorn, drink coke, the whole nine yards.

I think he’s a moron, WOKE WOKE WOKE SJW!!!. Dudes like him only discourage sane people from criticizing actual flaws in these shows and movies. For example, Kenobi was disappointing and that has nothing to do with casting a black woman. Episodes 8 and 9 are the only pieces of Star Wars media I despise and that’s because the plot is nonsense, not because of a woman and a black man as leads.

Yeah Holdovers was also great. Poor Things, and anything by A24

I see. Coca Cola and popcorns. :us:

I prefer watching movies while smoking a joint and drinking alcohol, if you ask me.
Different expectations.

not just expectations, but circumstances.

I can’t really light up a joint with 3 underage kids in the next room.

I do when my kids are sleeping.
Different visions.

Right. That’s kind of a good example because it is sort of “iconic”, even if people haven’t seen it they quite likely know something about the pie, not to mention “bandcamp.” But maybe it is actually a great move, I’ve only seen it over 20 years ago on a DIVX rip.

I don’t know the guy you are talking about, but there is another POV here as well.

I criticised aforementioned S04 of True Detective because its pure shit, and people replied to me its because I mind two women as leads. Ridiculous.

I also can’t see any other reason, other then political agenda, for that season to have 90%+ rotten tomatoes from critics, and below 50% from general public.

I think using well established franchises solely for identity politics while destroying those franchises in the process is an actual flaw that should be criticized.

But that’s an opinion of course.

I have no sympathy for Hollywood but I do like good movies that don’t undermine the viewers intelligence.

I be watching it soon, because hell its Jodie Foster, I adored S1 , but s2 and 3 were a drag.

A24 is to movies of today what Miramax was to movies of the 90’s. It’s a studio with a bold vision that produces movies of consistently higher quality than the rest of the field. Knowing nothing else, I will check out a movie just because it’s produced by A24

agree about S01, and S02, but i did like S03 a lot!

Watch if you want, but i think S04 is insult to viewer intelligence.

Problem is budgets are massive, they’re trying to appeal to everyone like everyone across the world. I agree my main issue with modern movies and it mainly consist of blockbusters is the dire writing nowdays. However, there are plenty of great movies made still, if you watching the big blockbusters I can see why people become jaded.
