Will have to get a shot or two this coming season. I thought I had a few photos of other devices on the boat, but I could only find one shot with the SP-404 MK 2. I think I took that on one short trip, but it’s pretty power hungry.

They are quite different. Cycles is easier to use, therefore big recommend for beginners and those with little free time. The sound is very “what it is” out of the box but it can be changed by utilizing the LFO. Or just get some good soundpacks

Not sure how useful this is to someone, but I logged all of my time using the Cycles with a USB battery. I thought it was a 10,000 mAh, but it turns out it is a 12,000 mAh battery I got off Amazon in 2014. It has a ton of charge/discharge cycles on it, so presumably it is reduced in capacity. The battery finally died last night after a little over 17 hours of use with cycles in just over a month. I expect it will have even better life on a more recent battery, but that test tells me all I need to know about portable longevity. I figured it would be good, but this is great for my purposes.

Thread is a little old but I’d echo folks saying to stick with one elektron for a while and get thoroughly comfortable with the workflow/ approach. However, if you NEED a drum machine right away you could do a lot worse than an m:c.
I’ve had both and I sold the DN but kept the M:C. The dn is a great machine but I didn’t bond with it. The m:c on the other hand was instantly familiar, it reminds me a lot of one of my favorite drum machines, the ever divisive korg er1.
Aside from being elektron and based on fm the m:c and dn are pretty different. Neither are a “classic” implementation of fm like a dx7, opsix, megafm, et al but are both very clever in their implementation of it.
