Do any other devices let you sequence diverse effects like OPZ, Pocket Operators do?

Drambo does punch-in effects, and they can be any effects you like, even long chains.

Our own @echo_opera made a video about it.

Syntakt can do that, as presented by @Humanprogram in this very excellent video

Yep! Drambo is the best!

Simple to make punch-in FX even before the punch-in FX module was added.

I do wish Drambo had a few extra native tools for midi, eg a CC range filter, or an easy way of storing a inputting notes channel as a variable when converting it to CV.

Whilst we’re at it, improved midi mapping with variable input AND output ranges, and many-to-one as well as one-to-many for CCs.

Still, there’s nothing else like it! So amazing!

Thanks!

Yeah, one thing I like about the Elektron (OT, ST, AHFX, Rytm) approach to performance effects is that when you’ve got building blocks for effects you can make things that sound unique. I can imagine not always wanting the same suite of effects as on the Teenage engineering, SP-404, etc things…

I’ve drunk many tankers full of octatrack kool aid but I really don’t think any of those devices from elektron, TE and Roland differ in the extent to which you can make unique sounds!

The Akai Force has pad grid macros which are excellent for this exact purpose. Loads of possibilities there because you can use a pad macro to control built in fx / functions AND send CCs / PC etc to external gear at the same time. So you can build a system using external hardware alongside the internal fx and have loads of momentary changes across all your gear.

I also work on a computer all day, but I have sort of conceded that while I would LOVE more actual hardware that has features like that its not practical for me personally. I don’t have tons of free time so the efficiency of workflow and instant gratification of a hybrid setup is the compromise I made. Wish it were not the case, but I need to maximize the time I have to enjoy my personal creative time.

The patches on Alchemy (Logic soft synth) have this thing where there are eight cells that can hold the settings of the patch, including a bunch of slots for effects and you can cross fade between these eight states. I know Alchemy is not hardware, but what I do is hook up something like a Arturia keylab controller and assign each of the eight cells to one of the buttons bellow the fader. Then depending on how you set the states up you could have eight different effects to swap between.

Or what I have done is get a MIDI x/y pad controller (or eurorack joystick/pad controller + cv>midi converter) module and then you can seamlessly crossfade between the different states.

The setup is quick and easy enough, its a mostly hands off computer experience once set up, plus Alchemy has pretty great patches and lots of em so you dont need to screw with the actual software too much.

Cons: Need Logic Pro, a computer (if only to host the synth)

Never used modular, but I hear:

At the moment, I’m having a blast with punch in FXs. Either the Punch-In FXs of my POs or the mFXs from the SP404mk2.

I initially was crazy interested in the EP-133 for the new punch-in FXs. But the horror show that the EP-133 is slowly turning into made me wary (went through 2 units with a dead fader). And having tested the unit, I can’t say I’m fairly impressed with the new punch-in FXs. I would have preferred if they had transferred the PO33 piFXs into the EP-133. And the new sensitive pads are nothing to write home about.
Same for the OP-Z. Reading about the issues TE never fixed had me turn my attention elsewhere.

So yeah, if anyone has any idea of any gear with a simple sequencer and great punch-in FXs, I’m in.
