DnBnJungle Battle #10: Dub Du Monde

Calling junglists & drum & bass battlers across the planet Earth—the latest edition of the elektronauts battle kicks off this week!

Taking a page from the notoriously litigious sporting tournament that shall not be named, I’ve devised a globe-spanning challenge to channel your creative energies, drawn up from the world’s overflowing cup of cultural heritage to inspire fire bouts of international musical matchmaking.

The Rules:

  • Create a drum n bass or jungle track inspired by the music of any two countries that will play each other in the 2026 Group Stage (Groups are listed in the post under this one)
  • Keep your track under 6 minutes!
  • Extra reputation points if you can work in a sample from Shakira & Burna Boy’s 2026 theme song in there
  • Send me a WAV/AIFF/FLAC before the Final Match on JULY 19th!

This is the stupidest idea possible for a DnB battle.

I LOVE IT!

As my country is participating in that shanenigan , I feel obliged to use it. Any of the other three choices is as fun as incompatible… Amazing @KingDuppy.

This is a fun idea that leaves a lot to the imagination.
I choose group F, let’s see what that brings.

Out of curiosity, are there any requirements into the country inspirations? Or it can be literally anything such as a sample, or general mood?

I think just go with what inspires you. Some folks don’t use sampling much in their workflow so I didn’t want to limit the challenge to samples.

For instance, if I picked Group J, maybe I would try to write a song with a tango or rhumba rhythmic pattern (Argentina) that also features a didgeridoo sound (Australia).

With regards to the USA/UK, we are talking about the vast majority of recorded popular music from the last 70 years. Should the songs from those 2 countries somehow represent the more “folk” styles of music from there? So for USA stuff like the Alan Lomax collection and in the UK, i don’t know Skiffle and Sea Shanties? not sure what you guys were doing before the Beatles

I’m picking Group A

First off, dig this amazing album cover, one of us!:

We still havent caught up with Okmalumkoolkat, he is at least 50 years ahead of us.

If you are ever lucky enough to be in Mexico and you see some people dressed in all white carrying harps, immediately give them money and this is what you will hear: Son Jarochos.

And while its tempting to use some demon hunter tunes, I thought this song from Korea was kinda like some Mississippi delta blues

A non-western scale would be supercool but I don’t see me doing it. :see_no_evil:
What I like about this challenge: it forces to me to dig deeper in some musical styles which are completely out of my comfort zone.

Very impressive. :+1: I’ve started this week. Currently I’m still in my idea-collecting phase…. Listening to tracks, deciding which samples I might want to use. But…I have already chosen a certain group and two countries. :slightly_smiling_face: and I created an Ableton project to collect samples and ideas.
