Here we have a fine selection of 8 donated organ tracks—a veritable organic orgy for your organ of Corti.
Organs of boiling steam. Organs of pumps and bellows. Organs of howling analog circuits, organs of ice-cold digital oscillators.
At this electronic organ meet, you’ll find a feast of the very finest organ meats, groove to the grind of manic organ grinders, mash up the dance with a massive of organ monkeys.
So join me as we explore the wonder and power of the organ, imagined as only the elektronauts battle massive can.
ALL VOTES MUST BE IN BY END OF DAY SUNDAY, APRIL 5th!
• You can only vote if you contributed a track to the battle.
• Constructive feedback is strongly encouraged even if you didn’t submit a track! but it won’t count toward the results unless you played!
• So this time, based on past feedback, we’re going to try something a bit different for the voting.
• Rather than awarding 1st, 2nd and 3rd places with rigid point values, each player will have 6 points to give out how they feel.
It’s up to you—distribute them evenly to your top tracks (i.e. one point each); give all 6 points to just 1 track; or come up with your own reasoning. You can award your 6 points any way you like, so long as it’s no more or less than 6 points total.
Think of them as half a dozen roses to give your favorite bachelors.
First place track 2 with 4 points, really liked the laid back feel of this one… solid mix and sample choices…
Runner up with 2 points is track 6, probs got the most energy out of all the entries tbf, my only critique is the sort of comedy samples, they didn’t sit right with me, personal preference though and all that…
I don’t know if I’m the last one voting. Happy eastern if this is relevant for you.
Trying to use my points in a different way:
2 points for Track 5
2 points for Track 6
I like both tracks the most.
1 point for Track 4
1 point for Track 2
Okay, that just leaves me. I’ll post mine here and then take a second to tabulate.
My votes:
2 points to Track 1—Lots of fun and embraces the assginment. 2 points to Track 6– I was hoping for a church organ track and this one didn’t disappoint.
1 point to Track 3—I really enjoyed the thunder foley and felt that the atmospher and music worked together really well—the crash of snares (lightning) and rumble of thunder (bass).
1 point to Track 2—Clean, extremely tasteful sound design, and I loved the organ sound you found. It reminded me of that one Propellerheads track…
Votes are all in and tallied. Here we go! (ratcheted drumroll…)

Thanks guys for the votes and congrats to you all again for throwing your hats in the ring, I really wasn’t expecting to place let alone win cos as I mentioned to @KingDuppy when I submitted, I only really did an entry for jollies and to try and kick myself up the butt to get working on things again after being in a bit of a winter funk…
Thanks Mr duppy for the generous hosting as always, this is gonna be my last battle for a bit, I threw something up in the drone day thread today, and tbh it was a really enjoyable process just doing some ambient stuff for a change so the time feels right to try something new…
Sometimes doing things just for funsies ends up in the best results. It’s a psychological thing.
In any case, thanks all for the votes and thanks again KD for organizing and putting the effort in!
I was not expecting the points, likewise, but it is a nice bit of validation. @KingDuppy organ sound was perhaps stretching the challenge a little, but it was something like a FM / house organ patch in Massive.
I had a blast putting this together in Maschine+ and I’m glad I managed to salvage the track after some minor data loss. Tracked and performed into MPC Live 3 if anyone cares, with some edits/automation in the arranger.
My track was Track 3. Thank you for your points and @KingDuppy for hosting this battle.
Organs are not my favorite instruments, but apparently not so bad for drum&bass. I actually sampled „Mutual Core“ by Björk and you can hear some low organ in the intro and the breakdown. As always I‘ve used Ableton Live and mostly stock instruments. The main lead is an organ patch in drift (I think- not close to my usual computer). Autopan was used but I kept it mainly as it is. For the drums I basically used a break from a collection of breaks I once found, sliced it up a bit and called it a day.
The thunder came from a free beat.de sample pack (something like the sound of Berlin) with sampled field recordings. I like the thunder (it has nothing do with Berlin, I guess), especially in the breakdown. Other than that I used Autofilter for transitions and variations - in the breakdown section I used the Erosion effect in Ableton.
I struggled a bit with the idea to end the track with a 303 melody, like reusing the organ lead melody with a 303 - it didn‘t work at all. Maybe next time.
