DN/DT+Blackbox= Octatrack-style record triggers / looper maschine!

So I just figured this out and wanted to share:
If you own any Elektron that can sequence external gear (like any of the Digis) and a 1010music Blackbox sampler, you basically can do octratrack-style looping with record/play/clear triggers in your elektron sequencer!
Blackbox offers MIDI CCs to trigger record/play/clear to one of its pads

Here’s how to do it:
Setup on the Blackbox:

To Configure Blackbox to Use MIDI Triggered Recording:

  1. Push TOOLS and select the MIDI tab, then turn Pad Record ON.
  2. Connect your Elektron to the blackbox via the TRS
    MIDI IN jack.
  3. Set the Global In channel to something, like f.e. “16”
  4. on the Elektron create a MIDI track set to that same channel

Now you use this track to place triggers that record or clear.

Here are the corresponding midi notes for the triggers related to which pad you want to record into/clear:

(Note: only cleared pads can be recorded into)

Recording will end when:
■ you press the corresponding MIDI Note again,
■ when the recording reaches the length specified in the recording settings, or
■ when you press the STOP transport button.

If you have RecToPlay set to ON (you’ll find it in TOOLS - > Rec) and have specified a
recording length, the pad will start playing as soon as recording is finished.

Now to play that pad with play triggers, we need use another track on the elektron.

In the blackbox go into the pad config and set the pads MIDI in to some other channel then the one used for recording, f.e. “1” for the first pad, “2 for the second”, and so on.

so on the elektron now create another MIDI track thats set to the channel of the pad u want to play with it, f.e. “1” for pad 1.

now on this track you can place your play triggers to play that pad on the blackbox. you can also control parameters of that pad like filter, pitch etc with this Track, and of course also probability, etc…

Now this opens up so much possibilities! you can use this to have a dedicated looper track on the Elektron, or have it constantly record, play and clear a pad on the BB in the sequence you want, etc.

Have fun!

Cool, and thanks! It will easily take me about a month to fully internalise all the  informations, but great to know indeed!

It sounds much more complicated then it actually is!

Just set the settings on the bb and then have 2 midi tracks on the digi, one for rec/clear and another to sequence the recording/loop
