Hi, I am using Digitone 1 version 1.4 and I am also experiencing this bug where the machine crashes if I jam on a track with a recorded arpeggio and other tracks also have arpeggios. It freezes with a high-pitched sound. I would like to know if this issue has been resolved since I can only find posts from 2023 without a solution to the problem. I would also like to know if the problem is present on the Digitone 2 because if the issue is not resolved, I am considering buying the version 2.
Make sure it’s on the very latest OS, 1.42 I think.
I used to have the same problem with my Digitone Keys, but haven’t had a crash in months now since the last update.
I can even use overbridge without a problem now!
I haven’t had the crash in a while either but I thought that they identified the cause and it was somewhat avoidable? I’d have to check but I’d also recommend updating your firmware if you’re still on 1.4.
Definitely the same issue with the arp though. I think I might have unfroze it without restarting by doing double stop then hitting play again? It’s been a while though so I honestly can’t remember.
Let us know how it works for you, and if it’s not fixed please report this to elektron support because I think it’s pretty important to a lot of people that it be resolved (if it is not yet already done).
As far as digitone 2, there are a lot of reasons to upgrade, but not if you’re happy with what you have currently. I have not heard of the arp on DN2 freezing, but I’d look in the digitone 2 bug reports thread for confirmation.
Thanks for your responses. Actually, I am on version 1.41, so I will try to update to 1.42. Yes, I am satisfied with the DN 1 , it’s just this problem that bothers me. I am afraid it might happen during a concert, which is very dangerous for the audience. I restarted it, and it displayed a DSP boot error. I will wait for the capacitor to completely discharge before turning it on again. But yes, this problem seems to be present on all DN 1 units, and it’s a significant issue. I hope the update to 1.42 will resolve the problem. Thank you.
Have you ran an error test by entering the pre-boot menu? Holding the func button while powering on from an off state will enter into something like a bios menu and you choose error test, which I believe is option 1. You should try that and see if any error is logged.
It was frustrating for me as well, I had the arp freeze up a number of times. I think it might have been related to midi or it could have been something else but I’ll have to do a search here and see if I’m remembering correctly, it’s been quite a long time since I dealt with it.
I’ll let you know if I come across the info, please post what your error test results show.
@shigginpit
Yes, please keep me informed. Thank you for the tip regarding the error message. I waited 10 minutes, restarted it, and the message didn’t appear. The project is working, but I still have the issue with the arpeggiator. If I play on one track, all the other tracks go into hold mode, so I avoid touching it to prevent another crash. We should be able to play 4 arpeggios simultaneously and jam without fear of a crash. I’ll let you know if the problem persists after updating to version 1.42. Thank you!
I also tried disconnecting all the MIDI, and the problem persists, so it’s definitely an internal issue with the DN.
For some people it did seem midi related, maybe you found a different path to the same arp error?
I hope the funcionality tests after your firmware update see it resolved for you.
