DIY sound panels to improve your music cave

Sharing my experience, a recent project to upgrade my music cave.

TL;DR - Magnets are cool

Thank you very much for sharing,
I’m taking notes

thx
I’m also taking notes

Interesting! Where did you get the acoustic tiles?

I got them from Home Depot. You can get a case of them, which has eight 2’x4’ tiles for less than $50.

If I were going to do it again, I’d try to get some of these. They absorb 85%.
But they are also $200 for six of them, ooof!

thank you for this, gonna try it for sure. did you already have the towels or did you buy those specifically?

I bought them as I didn’t have 8 towels the size I needed.

These are the ones I got:

Ariv Collection Premium Bamboo Cotton Bath Towels - Natural, Ultra Absorbent and Eco-Friendly 30" X 52" (Grey) (4 piece set)

If I did I it again I’d try to get thicker towels, but they get expensive.

The towels serve 2 purposes. They absorb more sound and keep the panel edges from dropping debris.

Thanks for the info mate.
Did you end up putting any panel up on ceiling? Those are the ones I’d be worried about

I didn’t add them to the ceiling (which is funny as they are ceiling tiles  )

They would work there as the tiles are fairly light and the magnets are very strong.

I did consider it, but decided to add rugs on the floor to soak up sound bouncing from the ceiling.

Note I wasn’t going for a completely dead room, as I’d have to cover all surfaces to get that.

This is great stuff, I’ll try to build some panels soon. The only thing is I am not too keen on seeing towels on my walls, will think of something to cover them, black cotton sheet maybe

Interesting stuff here! I have decided to change up what I am doing with sound and I am going to move on from “trying to produce music” to sound design, field recording and foley work.

I am looking into gear (of course) and how to make a “dead” room for recording.

Found this project from a few years back.

There is a video (timelaps) from the building proces too.

If you have personal experiences in this please share.

thx
