Also curious.

Valgo KGB Dist is based on Rat and it takes whole mixes, I alwas set it to Inst Level but put Line Level in  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9_49ZcLMiK8 … I can record something 303ish in a minute

When resonance get’s eaten away by distortion it’s mostly because of all the bass. So a high pass before distortion could help, or a pedal that does it itself (for example, Tubescreamers do that)

… snippets with the Valco because i have it randomly setup here

low resonance

high resonance

This is using the DTII with one of the saw “acid” factory single-cycle waveforms.

With synths and pedals happens just the same that with guitar and basses, where lots of experimentation is needed

I will start with the cheapest options and take it from there, without expending a lot of money while on researching stages. Maybe start with pedals from around 15-60€, you should be able to find clones of more known or classic pedals along those prices using second hand market to test.

Start with the typycals overdrive and distortions, and build it from there. Harley Benton, Joyo, Mooer, Digitecht, etc… Every pedal will bring you different nuances, always down to the sound they may receive.

Another option I may try is getting a cheap digital multi effect that allows changing pedals order, it can work wonders as sketching pad for later on, and they are already to find for lest than 80€

Pedals are great fun but demands testing of you don’t want to sound like others.

Thanks for sharing. Think I’ll get mine done too

Yes, I have it modded! Also a Kaoss Pad 1 modded from them!

The best thing (for me) is the CV in for the Cutoff. Very handy. It’s additive to the actual knob too so you can still use it after automating.

The Filter FM is good, can get crazy with the Filter FM in. The extra resonance helps with those sounds too.

Well worth it imo. The MB-33 doesn’t sound too much like a 303 to my ears but it has a beauty of it’s own. Nice with the filter open and no res too.

I’ve got mine running like this:

Volca Bass > MB-33 > Mono Station

All on the same MIDI channel for some 7 oscillator madness. The LFO, envelope, overdrive and distortion on the MonoStation all help too.

Go for the mods!

@Laser Cheers for all the details, no reason not to get it done it seems. My MB33 is bubble wrapped & sat in a box waiting to be posted & modded

I currently have a Cyclone Analogic Bass Bot running through a Revv G3 clone, which itself is apparently more Rat-like than the tighter-voiced G4. Acid Rat.

I just realized that I started this thread

A quick word about where I’m at: I have tried a RAT, wasn’t so convinced, I tried a cheap pedal that I forgot the name off, same.

Currently, my setup allows me to monitor with little latency and I’m happy with the actual overdrive from full volume on the MB33, and use Roar when needed, in Ableton Live. Love it. Enough for me.
