I’m using an AR MKI and am experimenting with direct change mode and small variations between several similar but altered patterns to open up variation possibility beyond the limits of probability/trig conditions etc. (also circumventing the need to script the whole track out in song mode) I like how it sounds because I can create a much wider variety of patterns with relatively little p-lock memory taken up.
One of the tracks is playing a melody at 1/2 scale. So my main pattern (bass synth and drums) are a 4-bar 64-step sequence, but the melody is an 8-bar 64-step sequence. Unfortunately direct jump isn’t being very friendly towards this. I am switching at the start of bar 2, or step 17 of the sequence, but the melody track is only on step 9. Direct jump however skips straight to step 17 in the melody track, which totally ruins the flow of the melody.
Has anybody else encountered this problem? Or can anybody suggest a solution? I don’t want to send midi from my computer so the only option I can think of is using my MD to sequence the melody pattern, but I don’t want to do this because I’m really fond of the timbre I have in the AR for it. Please comment if you have ideas!
