Digitone II syncing with other devices

I cannot get my new digitone 2 to sync with other hardware.
Both when i use midi cable or usb, the tempo is drifting all over the place, going a bpm faster and or slower, the delay sounds like a drunk tape machine.

Does anyone have an idea what i’m doing wrong?
I am not an inexperienced user, don’t start talking about DAW clock drift. It does sound like that, but i have tons of other gear that does sync rock solid with the same signal. So the problem is within the Digitone, either settings or bug?

Hi. Can you specify your clock source? What is the master clock in your setup you’re trying to midi sync with?

So far i’ve tried midi clcok from a keystep and usb midi clock from ableton live.

I know both are rock solid for all other devices in the studio.

Now i also tried the midi out directly from my RME UFXII which is renowned for it’s stability, again drift of multiple bpm.

In the digitone menu, have you enabled both receive clock and receive transport? It sounds as though receive transport is enabled if it’s starting with the keystep or live clocks. What else have you tried in the digitone menu? Is it a keystep pro with a menu on the device or a regular keystep where you have to use the arturia midi control center to configure it?

i’ve enabled both note and transport receive, or it wouldn’t start the internal sequencer.
I doubt the issue is with the keystep pro, since the same thing happens going directly via midi or usb from the computer without the keystep involved.

I’ve tried disabling midi cc, transport and note send and multiple combinations in the DNII config to no avail

Are you experiencing audible drift or are you talking about midi jitter on the Digitone display?

I’ve gotten midi jitter where the tempo shows as fluctuating without audible jitter. It’s only really happened when sequencing externally, but not severe.

Elektron gear seems to like to be the brain, so do an experiment with digitone as the master. Send clock and transport from the DN to live and see if it is still out of sync, just for the sake of curiousity. You’ll also need to make sure the digitone is not receiving clock while it’s the master.

as i said it is audible in the delay time for example, where it sounds like a tape wow pitch drift effect. I also see the bpm display change, when it is set to say, 78, it will change anywhere from 77 to 79, and occasionally go even lower or higher.

I do not want to use digitone as a master, i expect it to follow the master daw clock like the rest of the studio.

Have you used a midi monitor to see if clock is coming out of digitone? Is it possible there’s clock going in both directions?

There is something weird going on to have that much drift even over a din connection. Sounds abnormal. If it persists you probably want to file a trouble ticket with elektron support and have them go through it with you.

clock out is disabled in the settings, and no midi cable connected to the midi out port.

but usb midi can go both ways right?

yeah, that’s why i disconnected usb and switched to midi only to make sure. This is not my first rodeo  But it’s a pretty angry bull, apparently lol. Yeah i think i will have to contact support…pfff thanks for the help anyway!

The only other thing I would do if it were me, is to try a different project on the digitone and make sure there isn’t a setting or some bad data in the project file itself. If the behavior is the exact same, then I don’t think that’s a normal amount of jitter.

yup sorry we couldn’t nail it down.
