Hey all,
I understand and have set up the digitone 2 in the best way for this purpose but am running into an issue and want to triple check if this is possible at all, and what others might add into this setup to solve this.
the setup:
Digitone 2
norns (using mlre or other audio record + playback scripts)
The dn2 main outs go into norns, it records and sends back to the main inputs of dn2
I create a pattern, record into norns, all is well.
Now norns plays back over digitone mains, so when i sample again feedback appears. It is now recording both itself, and the new dn2 material.
When I disable the “in to main” it solves one part of the issue, but now i can not use dn2 to monitor norns, which was my main point with this setup. To juse have the two and midi controllers using the dn2 as main out trough the headphones jack.
Now adding a laptop and overbridge is something i can do.
probably something like this:
- turn of internal to main,
- route all audio trough overbridge
- then from ableton, send select audio over usb to dn2, and then hopefully to the main outs?
- use headphone out to monitor my ableton session?
It seems unlikely that this will work?
Adding an audio interface with send and return will work, but thats adding another thing to a setup i was hoping to keep very small and minimal
Any ideas?
thanks so much, and also hello this is my first post
just trying overbrdge method and getting all the sounds into ableton works fine.
Norns goes into its seperate channel (have to route it properly in the overbridge plugin) but cant for the life of me figure out how to get audio from ableton to dn2 and then out of the main outs?
I can send audio to the OB plugin as sidechain, but that only routes to the compressor. I can also send it to outputs 3/4 in ableton itself, but that doesnt do anything it seems…
any help is very much appreciated
Hi,
there is no way to avoid the feedback loop with your approach. As you correctly identified when you send the sounds from the DN to the Norns everythings fine but everthing is through the effect. When you now send it back to DN you have the normal DN sound + the norns effected lane coming from the main output back into you Norns effect.
What you need is essentially a mixer. You have to make sure the the sound of the norns isnt routed back into your DN. If you have an audio interface you can do this in Ableton. Do you know how to do this in Ableton?
thanks, figured as much.
I know how it would work yes, gonna try with my focusrite and see if i can fit it into the case i am building.
I did just now have a setup more or less working. There is still some feedback / crosstalk but only minimally. Have to test further because my brain is now fried but did the following
Internal to main turned off,
digitone as audio interface and all audio through overbridge.
Digitone out to norns in, and norns out to digitone in
Routed the external input from overbridge to a track, so it comes in seperatr with all the digitone tracks.
Then when wanting to record into the norns, I it does indeed record itself again. as the entire project is playing trough those same outputs. But a whole part of it is working at least.
im trying to see if sending to OB plugin sidechains can do more than just trigger the compressor…
So adding an interface seems to be the way to go.
