Digitone 2 Grid Recording settings

I have a novation keyboard midi connected to a Digitone 2 via DIN midi out to in. In Grid Recording mode, when I want to set a note to a trig, I press and hold the trig, then press the relevant note on the novation keyboard.

It plays the note, but records the note along with the default note for the track.

If I press the note edit key, I can see both the default note and the one I pressed.

What I want it to do is just record the note I pressed on the keyboard, on its own, without the default note.

Is there a setting I’ve missed to make this the default way of recording in grid mode?

Any help would be appreciated!

Try pushing and holding the trig then playing the note on the external keyboard.

Thats exactly what I do, and for some reason it records both the default note for the track, as well as the not I’ve pressed on the keyboard!

Are you using the auto-channel or the track’s configured MIDI channel?

Thanks for replying. I’m using an autochannel. The midi keyboard is set to that channel.

Try sending MIDI to the track’s configured channel. I have a DNII in front of me but no MIDI keyboard at the moment. I just picked it up last week so I’m not as familiar with the settings and behaviors.

I don’t recall this being an issue on the OG DN but I do remember that live recording only works when sending to the auto-channel (which is standard for all modern Elektron devices IIRC).

Edit: Isn’t there a configurable overdub setting now in ‘Personalization’? Maybe that’s the culprit.

@AlbiTheCat I just checked and it doesn’t happen to me. I used MiniFreak to trigger and it didn’t add both notes.

I tried using Auto-channel and Track channel, both worked.

The thing is, the note is played on the midi keyboard is recorded, but it also records the core note too.

I have a Digitone Keys, and it works as it should.

I’ll check the personalisation menu to see if there is anything in it.

Can you connect your keyboard to a computer (or phone, or iPad) and use midi software to really check what’s coming out of it. Might be worth it … maybe it’s sending a note-off message or something.
