Digital piano as controller keyboard

hiya - hoping someone can help me out here. I’m trying to use my shiny Yamaha P-255 as a controller keyboard for the A4. while I have no options on the piano side other than choosing a midichannel it seems to only send lowest velocity or something. I am getting the faintest audio signal out so the A4 does listen to incoming notes - just hardly audible…
'hoping I’m missing out on something obvious here…
an ideas?.. cheers!

Is that with all sounds, or just the one you are trying to control at the moment?
In the sound settings menu you can adjust the velocity curve
If that does not work, try plugging the yamaha into another midi module to check that it is doing the same to other modules
Also there is a velocity setting on the p255 (p17) http://www.sheargoldmusic.co.uk/content/Manuals/Yamaha/p255_en_om_a0.pdf

hey thanks for your help - think I had a bricked midi cable as it’s working as expected with a new one
