own both. for what you want to do… digitakt will do the job. No individual outs might be an issue and no pad layers. But if not used as a sequencer, and if you won’t miss the pads AND you already have an octa you won’t miss it. As a sound source sampler and sequencer Digitakt is a wonderful machine. Filter, FX and Sound are SO much better than the 1k/2500 its not even close.
Reasons why I need my 1k:
Slicing
Individual Outs
Keygroups and Multi Samples
Velocity Layers (essential for my edrums and finger drumming)
Since getting the Digitakt, I basically only use my 1k with my edrum rig now for triggering loops and playing velocity layered drum kits. Digitakt needs better file management (currently no way to transfer sounds off the machine!), input through and at least a band pass option for the filter… compressor on the master would be most welcome too!
Swapped my MPC1000 with JJOS 2XL for a Digitakt. Was never a finger drummer; only thing I miss is playing non-monophonic samples on keyboard but using an iPad app for now. Might look at getting an old skool rack sampler for this down the line. I am not a big fan of linear sequencing so tracking out live on the DT suits me much better. And the DT just sounds a lot better imo.
Used maschine, and a DAW. It’s not the same, true, but in many genres it’s convention. Even in software. Take hardstyle kicks for instance. Those are about 50+ layers of kicks reprocessed and again layered etc. . No way you’re not resampling during that proces
What I mean is, it can actually be a good thing. It’s not a downside to me anyway.
Well I done did it and ordered one!
ETA mid September.
Just a side thing, is anyone doing like hard hitting industrial or ebm type stuff with theirs? All I see out there is glitchy stuff or dub techno, but indef see the potential for other genres. So I am curious.
One more question if anyone is still reading this thread:
So it seems kits are saved to the patterns.
Does anyone have sets of “template” kits they created, and can you load them, save them under a different name and change them to suit your needs at that time? Without changing the original kit assigned to the “template” pattern.
This is how I work with my drum programs in my mpc, I have 6 template kits I load the ones I want and adjust as required to fit the track. I don’t want to loose that option. Seems obvious but I want to be 100% sure.
Thx
They’re saved inside the pattern, but there is no way to load a kit elsewhere, or copy it and paste it elsewhere. There is no kit browser that stores the kits. They’re stored inside a pattern, and nowhere else.
If this is crucial to your workflow, consider Analog Rytm, which does have a kit browser, kit copy, kit paste, kit load, etc.
Yeah, I get that.
But let’s say I load a pattern I previously made, that has no trigs on it, just sounds assigned to the tracks.
Can I then hit “save as” or something similar, and use those sounds as a template for a new pattern without affecting the original pattern?
If so I could easily then create a few starting points, or templates.
Yes, you can copy and paste blank patterns, which hold the kit information, and use those as templates.
Not 100% certain, but you may need to put a trigless lock in there somewhere before saving the pattern, though. Otherwise, there is no pattern data to save.
