So I have an mpc 1000 with jjosxl
That said, I don’t really use jjos to its full potential, far from it.
I basically use it to layer drums and pads and stuff to my octatrack.
I like the separate outs of the mpc to send to the ins of the octatrack for processing, but I don’t like some other things about it, mostly how clunky some operations in the sequencer can be, to add fills or variations for example.
I am checking out the digitakt for the sampler, but mostly for the trig conditions.
Anyone manage to replace their mpc 1000 with a digitakt?
Pros and cons I should know about? Other than the obvious?
The song mode isn’t an issue for me, I use the octatrack as a master, to switch out patterns on the mpc anyways.
Hell yes. When you figure out the microTiming you can get really accurate manually. Also the Swing is pretty decent too. I’ve even found quickly altering the velocity and softening filter etc of hits is just as quick as trying to play it in - not missing velocity sensitive input much
More tracks, bigger wave forms, more detailed sample editing, more FX, more filters, etc.
There were some trade offs though. The Live doesn’t have a free running LFO, no midi CC editing, no P-Locks, more menu diving, the reverb and delay don’t sound as good
But the more linear style of sequencing of the MPC works for me in staying organized and less chaotic
I honestly don´t get such MPC Live vs. DT statements as those are so totally different Machines of how you operate them and how you make Music with, really.
Leaves me under the impression that all those folks who do this comparison were never deep into working with P-Locks or then is their music not dependent on them.
otherwise is a comparison in my opinion just not possible. So different !
as you sayed, the pros and cons are obvious not ?
personally i never could gel with the sequenzer of the 1K and i worked in totally different ways with it, so i can´t tell you much on the sequenzing as i´m totally a p-locking guy
but what i can tell you is that the MPC1K ( i´m also on JJOS-XL2) makes for a great partner to be sequenzed from the DT there you go. Nothing to replace, they want to dance with each other, haha
That’s true, but I don’t finger drum much, what I do is layer drums from the mpc to thicken the drum loops I make in the octatrack, then add chords and/or drones in the mpc on top. So everything seems doable from the digitakt, and I have tons of iPad synths to sequence from either!
Thx, I think I will order, and decide for myself.
I’m working on a project atm where my MPC 1k is really just being used as a router-controller for MD, MNM & Beatstep Pro - and to play some very backgrounded samples. It selects patterns on the Elektrons (via program change), sets the tempo as master clock & acts a transport buttons… Also recording midi snippets from the beatstep into MPC MIDI tracks to further feed the synth & drum machine.
I’m not 100% sure but I think a Digitakt could do all of this.
