Digitakt + Syntakt + Keystep37?

I’m wondering if anyone can help me set this up:

I have Syntakt set as master, with 5 pin midi out to Digitakt.
The Keystep37 keyboard midi in, to the Syntakt
Auto channel on Syntakt is set to 14
Auto channel on Digitakt is set to 15
This all works fine, both boxes sync, and I can play back sounds on the Sytakt with the Keystep on channel 14, it works really well.
However when I set the Keystep to channel 15 it doesn’t play back sounds from the Digitakt. Am I missing something in the settings? how do I get the keystep to talk to both sync’d boxes?

I’d rather use DT as master, use a DT midi track, channel 14, to pass KS notes thru DT midi out.

Or sacrifice an ST audio track as midi track if you really want it master.

Ok thanks so I’ve made the Digitakt master - I don’t quite understand how I set the midi channel on the Digitakt to pass notes to the Syntakt?

For the Keystep to be able to send MIDI notes to both ST and DT, you need a chain like
KS MIDI out → ST MIDI in / ST MIDI thru → DT MIDI in.

If you want ST to be the master in such config, be sure to set MIDI sync and transport to off on ST, and plug ST MIDI out to KS MIDI in. But I’m not 100% this works correctly, to be tested.

Now when you have 3 boxes or more, a USB MIDI hub (e.g. mio4) begins to be very handy, it makes such routing way easier.

Alternative setup that might be more effective:

KS → DT thru → ST out → KS
With ST transport and sync in disable.

If you want to control DT with channel 14, you can use midi track F (controlled by channel 14 by default, in MIDI CONFIG CHANNELS). Set SRC MIDI channel to 14, and use channel 14 on KS.

OK thanks for your help.
I now have Digitakt as master, its auto-channel is 15
The Keystep is sync’d - its auto channel is 14
Keystep will play Digitakt sounds on channel 15.
On Digitakt midi channel F under SRC I’ve set the channel to 14
Still no sound on Syntakt auto channel 14

How is set MIDI F channel in MIDI > CONFIG > CHANNELS ? Should be 14.

And did you use channel 14 on KS ?
