Digitakt / SH-01A paired - Sound changes randomly

Hey guys!

I’m using my Digitakt in overbridge mode with the SH-01A sequenced via midi on it and every time I stop the Digi and restart the sequence, the preset sound from the SH changes. I mean, the preset number stays the same, the sound it self changes.

Any idea what’s happening?

Did you use a midi monitor and see what’s being sent from the DT when you stop and restart? Probably help to narrow it down, if you have one on your computer. If not you can download an app for free I think.

Is the Sh-01a conected by physical din midi to the DT? Also, if you try sequencing the SH-01A from some other gear, or from the daw, that might also help narrow it down because if this behavior only exists with the Digitakt then that points a pretty clear finger towards the culprit. If it does this with other gear, maybe the roland is the problem.

I have the TB03 in the same way and it’s all good when I stop and restart. Both are connected physically through a midi hub.

midi hub running through your pc via overbridge? can you test it with din midi from dt to just the sh-01A so we aren’t chasing a ghost? just to confirm the behavior.

Or when you say physically through the midi hub, are you maybe talking about a midi thru box like midi solutions quadra thru? Just want to clarify since when I think of midi hub, I think of the thing you use to interface your pc with din midi.

Yeah, I’m talking about a box like the quadra thru. I connect all my synths on it and after on the Digi.

I tested the SH directly midi connected on the Digi and the problem still happen.

Ok, so is overbridge mode because you’re also interfacing with your daw or perhaps just the overbridge control panel without the daw using the USB? But that’s not used in the physical set up, you’re sequencing the TB and the SH with the din midi, right?

I’m currently reading this page I linked below, it’s the same problem. Something about TX control change (basically program change from being sent from the sequencer), but they’re sequencing with a different product (mc-707). If you want to read also this is the link, I’ll continue and see if I can get to the meat of it, I just skimmed to see if it was relevant to your issue for now.

I think this can be resolved.

If the issue involving the 707 and the sh01a in the link is indeed related, then somehow the digitakt must be sending program change messages. Did you try at some point to enable patch change on the midi source page with the D encoder for prog? Or anything other than the channel setting? If so, disable it for the track controlling the SH and see if that helps.

It’s definitely the exact behavior you’re describing, and it does seem to point at the digitakt being the culprit.
