I was used to set my drum break on first trig and playing with the tune parameter until it loop perfectly. Then I resample the loop, changing to an empty pattern after the first run, then cropping the new drum break to have the exact time of my bpm and bars.
So yeah, you right, every machines was possible with PLock and tricks and resample, but now it’s far easier and faster to work with. The Slice machine can help a lot to flip a melody with keyboard mode.
For those who complain about fixed lenght slices, you just have to resample to make a sample chain and you get your slices with different lenght.
This update is amazing!. I’m a Rytm owner though and really hope that they’ll port this update over to Rytm. If not then I’ll be a very disappointed flagship owner.
Is there any reason this wouldn’t be ported to the Rytm? Is there a difference in maybe the underlying processing power between Rytm and Digitone ?
Oh totally, don’t get me wrong - an extra LFO open is ALWAYS welcome to me, but there’s a whole lot of “no need for an OT now” I’ve seen bouncing around re: this update and I mean… maybe if you just use the OT for loop playback…. I even still prefer the timestretch/warp on the OT
Not sure Rytm is designed to be as samples focused as DT.
I think It’s first analog drums with a sampling functionnality more than sampling drum machine like DT.
I hope for you and every owner they add the same features, but I will understand they wont.
Yeah I agree here. Not downplaying the update, or Elektron still bringing love to the DT. I see it more as an introduction of the Machine concept on the DT and including those long awaited features as timestretch and slicing. The question is what’s next for DT. I wish it could be something like the Slate Engine on Fors’ Opal synth. I guess the creative competition is on between Elektron and Ess Mattisson (Fors).
Yeah I think for me really the only “disappointing” thing is the timestretch not really having a super interesting character to me. I might need to just play with it more but I’m sort of lukewarm on how it sounds for weird glitchy stuff. But genuinely, this is an awesome update and there’s a ton of utility in it! But I see new machines and I’m the type who always wants craziness over utility
Don’t be disapointed, all the new machines are just automations for existing possibility in audio engine.
They have not break the engine or find hidden CPU power not used. As you said earlier, everything was already possible natively since day 1.
And yes, this doesn’t replace OT at all. But it make use case clearer for each one.
Well - Bob’s my uncle. I’ve been nosing around for a used Digitakt to use with my Syntakt. Now all the lower-priced used ones on Reverb and other sites are gone! So I just ordered a brand new one. These additions assure I’m going to get lots of use out of it so why not buy new and get the warranty and all. Thanks Elektron for keeping my wallet skinny.
Yeah, I’m not holding my breath but I’m really hoping for this. After jumping to the rytm and coming back to the DT for this update after a good amount of time away, it’s clear to me that I REALLY prefer the sound of the rytm over the DT, but all these new features are super nice. Let me have the best of both worlds!!!
Disappointment is nothing but a mismatch of expectations and reality.
For my part, I didn’t expect anything when opening YouTube last night to be surprised by @DaveMech showing DT 1.50
Also, DT is all about making sample-based music making easy while allowing complexity too.
I think that Elektron have again nailed it!
I think it is a good strategy to first work out the sample engine of the DT and then apply it to the Rytm. If there are bugs, they can be fixed within the next weeks. Since the sampling engines are similar, or the same, I’m pretty sure an upgrade for the Rytm will come out in the near future. And then we have the mega MPC-like hybrid machine (with an SRR parameter, yeeeeah!!!).
I am having the same issue. Before the update, everything was working with overbridge. After the update, Overbridge is seeing my devices but none of them are outputting sound. The sequencer goes and track lights are blinking where notes are sequenced… but no sound
You guys added the ability to loop the sample buffer?! (when you sample something, you can now set the preview to loop on the same screen where you trim the buffer) I didn’t even hear about this in the release notes nor video overviews. That is a huge quality of life improvement! I love how the button indication looks like a smiley face because that’s how I feel when I use it <:
All this time I’m questioning how much CPU is left for new features?, then yesterday I find out I’ve only been using one quarter of the machine for the last 7 years
Amazing update, going to spend this weekend sampling my modular and vinyl.
