Digitakt II vs Digitakt I for eurorack sequencing

Hi Elektron guys,

Looking for a new sequencer for my Eurorack ( got a midi ton CV module) and i am really interested by how low the OG digitakt has gone.
I would use it mainly for drum sounds and sequencing so this is my question: i dont see the need to go for a DII, but is there something i miss, a feature that could be a game changer with a eurorack system ?

Thanx for your advices

François

Welcome to the forum!

I don’t have DT2 (yet, will probably eventually upgrade but not in a rush) but as far as working with Eurorack is concerned, I think the differences are minor. More than 8 MIDI tracks are possible on DT2, but it’s a rare Eurorack system that needs that much from a Digi. The ability to name CCs in the DT2 UI, convenient, but not worth the incremental difference. There are features on DT2 that are nice for other purposes, but if you’ve never owned one before, these will take time to appreciate. DT1 can be had used for very good prices, as you’ve noticed, so this is a good time to jump in.

In addition to the above, DT2 has Euclidean sequencing that you might find useful.

And it’s worth mentioning that while DT2 has three LFOs for audio tracks, MIDI tracks still have two LFOs like DT1.
EDIT: My mistake. I could have sworn DT1 had two LFOs for MIDI tracks, but it’s only one. DT2 adds a second.

I don’t think there is a huge benefit to DT2 for this purpose.
But if you’re buying used at a low price, you can probably try DT1, and if you find that you are running into limitations, sell it for close to what you paid.

The only thing I could see being super useful from the DT2 for external sequencing is the fact you can set up and save midi presets which would be useful for creating different configs for different pieces of gear. There’s also a pretty sweet Euclidian sequencer. I don’t at all think that would justify spending that much more though.

For what you want to do, the DT1 should be more than sufficient.

I’ll add :

  • 16 CCs per midi track
  • Possibility to cumulate Prob, Fill, Cond
  • Scale follow when you press Note knob (possible to record it)
  • 2 midi lfos. (Only 1 for DT1)
  • CC naming
  • Midi Learn

As mentionned :

  • Euclidean seq
  • up to 16 midi tracks
  • Midi Presets

So everything combined makes it really better imho. Maybe DT1 will benefit from some DT2 improvements…

I always wanted to try the ERAE but just never took the plunge…will be watching this new one closely!

Op specifically said they would be using a digitakt for drums as well, which the hapax obviously has no sampler or any other integrated synthesis/sound generators. Just saying…

Digi One…unless you do not need to worry about the cost.

Hi all thanks for the answers,

Will go for a D1 this time. About $350 mint. Perfect for my budget.

Maybe consider an A4, with 4 CV outs.
I know it’s not much, but it also gives some sound processing power….

And up to 24 midi notes…
