Digitakt II: technical Q&A

(Inspired by Tonverk: technical Q&A )

Suggestion from the Tonverk thread: “This is to ask and answer technical questions. Please don’t turn this into a discussion.”

First Q: Since several of us are having troubles re-using wavetables from elsewhere on the DT2, can I ask, what are the specs required of DT2 wavetables, other than the obvious requirement of the number of frames being a matching power of 2 (64, 32, etc). Experiments seem to suggests there might be a maximum frame length in number of samples ?

I’m pretty sure it is 64 x 2048.

Is it possible to get the LFO rate to track pitch in tune using the key tracking modulation page? What settings would I use?

sorry to make this a discussion, but what I dislike about these threads is I never know if a question has already been asked and I don’t wanna be a jerk and ask it again. can we try to keep a summarized list in the main topic of q&as? if not I understandstand, you probably don’t want to spend a bunch of time on this.

Something I’ve never been sure on, am I free to delete old sample packs off of my DT2 without effecting the projects that have used those samples? (as a copy of the sample is made when the project is saved?)

yh the manual says it clearly tbh.

Does anyone know how to de-bloat a DT2 without breaking projects? :sob:

What you can do for a single project do is backup the project with transfer then restore the project with transfer being ultra careful to ensure the samples are restored even if already on the +drive. If you choose the right options, the samples will be placed in a sub-folder of the projects folder.

I think I just posted how to do it for one project. If you repeat the process for every project and every sound/preset that almost does the job apart from any kits you created. Since there is right now no way to back up kits, you’ll need to copy all kits into kit-backup projects first.

Actually, any Elkherd users may have better ideas.

That’s why i posted it and stated chatgpt. I can also delete it, but maybe better for everyone else to see who rely on chatgpt to always give them the right answer. Mods choice

Ah okay, so when I backup a project with transfer, it does save a copy of each sample.

Cool so I can backup the projects and presets I want to keep (afaik kits can’t be backed up but can all be loaded into the patterns of a project for transfer), then clear up my +Drive, then re-transfer my projects/presets back.

edit; oh yh that’s exactly what u said lmao

That’s exactly what I meant, yes. But try it out first with a throwaway project and samples, to gain confidence, don’t take my word for it

My humble opinion, for which I will undoubtedly be rebuked for evermore, is that we all know that these threads become HUGE, so I feel it’s fine to ask a question even if it has been asked before providing you’ve had a trawl through where feasible. People are always asking the same thing. It’s one of the charms of a chat forum. I think we’re all generous with others, so fear not.

Does anyone know if the Digitakt II has any kind of sleep mode other than dimming or turning off the screen?

no mention of ‘sleep’ in the manual’

if you search for ‘saver’ you’ll see this.

The Digitakt II features a screen saver that dims the screen after 5 minutes of inactivity
and turns off the screen after 60 minutes. Press any key or move any controller to wake
the screen.

well I have one thing unclear for DT2,
I’ve been using a midi keyboard to trigger tracks on DT2, and this is my day1 trying a midi keyboard but googling stuff it says you can’t do chords this way.
But I found that I can trigger several tracks at the same time.
I set a channel in my Arturia to 10, then select 3 tracks in midi : channels options to play on ch10 : thus I can trigger 3 tracks at the same time with one key. then I set the same sample for each track. Now : setting “note” on DT2 for C5, E5, G5 on each of the 3 tracks doesn’t work : the midi keyboard overrides the note setting : it will play all the tracks with the note I press on the keyboard… But detune works: I can detune the three track samples so that it sounds like a chord … but is there no way to cancel the “override” the midi keyboard does with DT2 note setting?
Any how. just experimenting, day 1 and all that. I know they say you can’t make it play chords without a synth but it’s fun trying to any way

Guys I accidently deleted a sample that was being used a project and now that track has nothing loaded into the selected sample slot. Is there any way to find the file name?

Anyone got any quantized live looping recording workarounds?

Hi everyone.
I try to get the most flexible setup with my digi boxes/overbridge and Ableton.
To get my latency down while playing my other instruments I set in the audio routings int to main to ON.
Then I run hydrasynth->dn2(overbridge)->Helix stomp->sp->dt2(overbridge)->headphones

„Dawless“ zero problems no noise no crackling all fine.

When i start Ableton with Overbridge enabled the Stereo input from my digitakt creates a lot of noise .
Even when I disable every audio track in Ableton.
I cannot sample anything with it.
But when I Start Ableton with both devices as audio/midi usb only the static noise are gone.

Are there some routings options I missed out ?

What’s the maximum length of a sample when importing it via Transfer? The manual only states thst you can record maximum 66 seconds onboard. Is the maximum for a single sample capped at maximum length of samples in a project (72 minutes mono / 36 minutes stereo)?

This thread from last year has a discussion about sample length when importing from Transfer. It seems like 59mb/just under 6 minutes is the max, but this may have changed in the ensuing months.
