Digitakt following OTs arranger, halt issue

Hello! Finally signed up, nice to be here.

Okay- I’m troubleshooting a problem with the Digitakt following OT’s arrangement.

It all works as expected except for when I “halt” or just stop the OT’s arrangement. When I scroll to a new pattern in the arrangement and press yes and start, the Digitakt does not change patterns, in fact it just resumes from where it was in the stopped on the pattern.

It’s basically pausing instead of stopping. The fix right now is to hit stop on the Digitakt and then hit yes/start on the OT. Works, but is NOT ideal for how I play. (My band often stops all the instruments, my vocalist says the final word in the verse and then I hit the next pattern in unison with her- not much time to muck around hitting stop on multiple devices)

Any solutions? Double stop on the octatrack works I believe, resets the Digitakt, but also throws me back to to the top of the OT’s arrangement.

I’ve been working on a firmware for the Retrokits RK002 smart midi cable to solve this issue, I’ll update if I can get it working. But in the meanwhile, let me know your thoughts!

Thanks

I’m just spitballing here as I haven’t used arranger yet, but can the DT handle transport duties while the OT handles pattern changes? Just a thought…

Welcome…

I didn’t tested that, but probably OT not sending STOP message is intended.

A single stop on DT doesn’t suffice?

What about playing an empty pattern looping instead of Halt ?

Try holding Stop + Play from OT to restart

I am curious about using it that way. Even OT handling clock and PC messages and the Digitakt just handling transport.

But in this case- even if it works and is reliable, I’d still have to go over to the OT after stopping DT (which would stop the OT) and select the pattern, hit enter and then go back for the takt to start the sequence. I’m trying to keep this aspect of the performance as simple as possible, since im basically following my vocalist, it’s gotta be FAST, and not require too much room for error.

I am excited to try that strategy out, I’ve used the Digitakt since 2017 in this project as the master brain, only been trying the octatrack for about a month now, so dt as transport leader def appeals!

Thanks! Been lurking for years

While the single stop on the Digitakt does work, it would be stressful in our live environment, because i’m listening to my bandmate on Vox, sometimes this pause is shorter, sometimes longer. I’d say it’s about a 4-10 sec variable depending on the song.

I don’t think live looping a empty pattern would work, bc she’s not quantized and I’m waiting on her. she doesn’t have a click/metronome in her monitoring set up.

Why do you think Elektron intentionally wants the dt to pause when working off the ot arranger? Even if it’s not working for me, I’d love to learn more about the intention and possible use.

I’ll try the suggestion of holding stop on the ot.

Gonna break out midi ox tonight and see what’s going on : ) in the meanwhile, keep it coming guys
