Digitakt + Field Recording. Connection issues

I’ve Zoom field recorder. Trying to connect it to DT to record input. Having no success. Any help?

have you pressed rec on the zoom to activate the microphones? can you see the levels bounce around as you make noises? have you connected a cable from the zoom to the DT ins?

hard to understand what the problem might be if you don’t describe what you’ve tried to do.

Are you trying to record what’s already on the zoom? AFAIK there are no “outputs” on the zoom. You’d have to load to a computer then to the DT…

hang on, are you trying to record the DT into the Zoom, or the microphone of the Zoom into the DT? Or transfer a recording into the DT?

there is output on the H4N

Oh snap I did not realize that the “headphone” jack was also a line out. Sweeeet.

You’ve got something like this?

Im trying to record the input from the Zoom directly into the DT., as if I’m using the Zoom as a mic.
I’ve used the Outs of the Zoom to the Ins of the DT, tried the USB also…
is there a correct method other than transferring files from mac to DT??

So your line out mini jack of the zoom (guessing you are using a H4N) goes to one or both large jack ins on the DT?

Essential troubleshooting would require you to test the connections individually. Have you checked if sound is coming out of the jack you are testing on the Zoom? Have you checked if there might be an issue of the DT receiving audio?

If both of these work as they should, then it might be the cable you’re connecting the two with.

Off the bat, and without judgement, I’m inclined to believe you’re using an inaccurate jack to transport the audio to the DT. Also possible, a defective cable.

I’m using…or trying to use…, H5.

No. I’ve 1/4 monos from l/r zoom outs to l/r DT ins.
The cables are working fine.
I’ve tweaked around the settings on both devices but the DT not picking up anything I’m putting in…

Yes tried all that…

I don’t recall there being 1/4 outs on that- I think those are Zoom inputs- every Zoom I’ve ever seen is an 1/8" stereo jack(that doubles as headphone out)

Yeah you’re right…, my mistake, I’m a complete novice.
So you suggest that cable you posted?

Yeah, that should work to change your 1/8" to fit your DT. Glad we got that sorted out!

Though, since DT is Mono, you might have better workflow to get a mono one and leave an input free

I’ll get a cable tomorrow. Hopefully that’ll work. :blush::blush:
Will post update then.

Thanks a lot!!

Happy to help!

I love a good track composed of field recordings! Be sure to share your output!

Very happy fella here. I’ve used 1/4in - 3.5mm adaptor to connect headphone cable to Zoom out and DT’s left In.
Everything working fine.

I’ve had the DT less than a week Ryan so my recordings will be a little be private only for now.
Though I’m SoundCloud same name as here if you get drones and loops…
