Would it be possible to connect, say, a Microfreak to the audio input and hear it live though the Digitakt’s built-in effects, or would I need to sample it first and then play back the sample in order to use the effects?
The DT doesn’t have effects when monitoring the inputs, so yeah you’d have to sample it to apply effects.

Can’t afford a Digitakt and Digitone as well, about a grand is my limit. I was thinking the Digitakt and Microfreak would have made for a great, minimalist but powerful, self-contained dawless synth/sampler/sequencer combo, especially as the 'freak is so diverse in synthesis but has no built-in effects. So it would have been perfect if I’d been able to use the effects of the Digitakt on it.
What a bummer.

I looked into that one a while back, I noticed it was quite popular as well. Not a fan of it physically though, and to be honest I much prefer the ZOOM G1 FOUR. It just seems to have a better interface and display. That said, it’s actually cheaper as well and I’m wondering why that is. Will have to do some more in-depth comparing with the user manuals if I get into needing to use a separate effects processor in the rig.
If I can get away with not needing a separate box for effects, I absolutely will, but it depends on what I decide upon as an overall rig. I don’t even have the 'freak, but it’s a very good contender for the sound source part of the rig since it has such a diverse set of synthesis available.
Damn shame I couldn’t have paired a 'freak up with a Digitakt the way I wanted!
