Digitakt - DJ software/mixing/Ableton(?)

Hello,

finally got a used DT couple of months ago and I’m still getting into it slowly. I’ve tried searching for for it but I got no definitive answer, so…

If DT can send MIDI out, would it be possible to map some buttons to DJ software? Or maybe would using Ableton be a good alternative.

Probably noobish questions so please bear with me.
I’ve been creating radio selections/mixes in Audition for the longest, and I wouldn’t really call them “mixes” per se, I just used some transitions. I’m looking to level up, and I’m pretty much broke.
I’m just looking to utilise what I have as beatmatching with mouse and keyboard just sounds tedious as hell, and well, I’m missing knobs too. And one of the reasons I’+ve bought the DT is for that reason, I just can’t do everything with laptop/mouse/keyboard only…

I don’t see why you couldn’t do this. Check out Mixxx Dj Software. It is free, and pretty good from what I hear/read.

DT (mk1) has 8 MIDI tracks, each has 8 controls you can select a MIDI CC number for individually, however all 8 controls are on the same MIDI channel as the DT track they are on (channel is selected in one of the tracks config pages)

So you can have 8 different (or you can select the same channel on several/all if you need) MIDI channels going out of it with 8 controls you can configure each.

The buttons can’t be configured unfortunately, they’re triggering notes on the selected channels.

So it comes down to what is available/what you can configure in the DJ software, maybe you can implement scrubbing on one of the knobs, or speed, for beat matching. Perhaps it’s possible to assign a note on a MIDI channel to start playing track A or B etc.

I used a MIDI controller with Traktor 2/3(?) i think when i first started out.

You could probably setup a midi mapping for traktor usinf 8x encoders for eq / equivalent of sliders / faders
And some note trigs for things like que point triggers , loop in / out , jump forward / backwards , mute .

Might be tricky as you wnt easy access to things across at least 2x decks , so I’d setup 4x encoders for left / right and 4 trigs for each left and right.

Look at the controller editor ( it’s a separate program to traktor) … but do remember to load in the controller mapping into traktor

Or find a cheap £70 traktor x1 controller if you can stretch to that.
